After 4 years of using my nearest OPC which is 20 min away i have decided to book my car into JZ machtech in Kings Langley i popped in there today to have a look and it does not look anything compared to my OPC even the fixed servicing costs are not much diffrent by the time i drive down there, so why i am i breaking up my full Porsche service history to go to them, i hope i can get some good feed back from you folks to convenice me why. I just feel that i will get maybe a more personel service and save on costs long term?

look forward to hearing some responses.

Phil

After my unpleasant dealings with my OPC over the last week I am going to use a specialist from now on.

What happened with the OPC i thought your car was going for a Service with a loan of a 997?

Phil

4K of "warranty" work done - took nearly a week, and about another £3K worth of non warranty work that they have told me needs doing when I know for a fact it doesn't.

JZ machtech in Kings Langley
jonas and steve at JZ have looked after my cars for 3 yrs now-they know porsche better than anyone i have met-i didnt even bother with the first service at my opc and took it straight to JZ-the opc guys are very humdrum compared to JZ-just take a look at their racing car work and you know they know their stuff.take your car there and you are in the best hands(imo)

Thanks Dylan

I am not worried about the fancy show room, and nice coffee i just want to deal with the person who really knows these cars and can be honnest with me to then tell me what is what, i will spend the money with them but i want to know what is what first. However it seems a lot to ask in this day and age.

I had my car serivced with JZ and so far so good, they went over the car to check everything out and came back to me with a report, i had a 12k service, Mot, break fluid change, clove box needed a new hindge, sports exhaust by-pass so it is always noisy through the revs, spare top up gan of oil. Total inc Vat £475.00 I thought that was not bad i also found them very helpful and it is nice to see all the other cars on site, old and new, i love seeing the mix.

They also put my mind at rest over my on going niggle over the ticking sound on cold start up i get which they said was normal.

I hope to use them from now on for many years.

Well I had a bad experience with JZ several years ago but many others seem to like them, I have seen Jonas wondering around a couple of times at PCGB events and they seem to be enthusiasts themselves with a fairly loyal customer base.

...so why i am i breaking up my full Porsche service history to go to them...

You're not. A good specialist stamp in the book is as good if not better than an OPC stamp in an older car. By older, I mean more than about three years. Can't vouch for JZ as I've never used them but they seem to have a good rep.

glad you had a good experience phillipe, like all mine at jonas place

all the best

I have to agree with some of the points above.

I have used JZ, the OPC (various) and JMG (www.jmgarage.co.uk) and have to say the following.

OPC: - Nice coffee, Nice leather sofa's a receptionist with a false smile, OK workmanship, Poor customer service in reality (away from the superficial bits)

Also, OPC fixed price servicing has MANY HIDDEN extras, Book in for a £400 job actually means a £1200 bill, lots of hidden bits like spark plugs and other bits you would expect to be included.. and of course the worlds most expensive wiper blades.

JMG and JZ - Fantastic service, coffee is normal stuff (what else do you want?) good workmanship, good customer service NO hidden extras and most importantly FLEXIBILITY!! They are there for you when you need them!

My only fault with JZ is I dont like their choice of oil, I have always been a Mobil-1 guy and JMG, like the OPC is Mobil-1, not cheap but it does mean that everything from the oil to the filters is all what you would have in the OPC.

Also, I would rather see a service book full of JZ and JMG stamps than OPC ones. I think a lot of enthusiasts and potential buyers feel the same.

I think you have hit the nail on the head.

I think that the Indies diffrence is that the owner is on site, they have built the business up from nothing and want there clients to be looked after, in my business we have built it up on giving not just a good service but an excellent one, and i expect that from my suppliers as well, and spend my life being disappointed. On the other hand the OPC i have used is very helpful and have been good however i like what i got from JZ so far i think there is a more in depth knowleadge especially with these older cars.
