Des,
If it is a new K&N they come pre oiled. If you clean a used filter as per instructions I believe they then need to be oiled to work correctly. I was always told that the oil can deposit on the MAF causing issues and potentially damaging the MAF etc. Mine came with one but I removed it straight away and I didn't want to run the risk.
I am sure someone with more knowledge will come along ! Good luck.

Silver, I told Des exactly the same as this a few days ago having removed a filter from mine when purchased.......It is not what he wants to hear.
Des, it will give you a 25%+ bhp increase (at the wheels!), further enhance your already impressive driving credentials, actually clean your MAF, optimally port your engine internals while guaranteeing you a stage win in the Porsche Club speed championship.
Hope you are happy now Des? []

Never doubted your advice Paul, and will be taking it ..... posting hear is giving me some debate on the matter and an interesting and serious issue which I would imagine the vast majority are NOT aware. Thank you for your help yet again, I would never doubt your knowledge on anything. []

Keep the standard filter in place and just regularly change the paper element. The K&N part which was on my Cup when I purchased it did nothing other than increase noise levels.
