K&N filter

Hi,
Has anyone installed one of these filters in their 3.2?

Any improvements?, any more bhp?

cheers

Amo

I' ve installed one - highly unlikely to do anything for BHP but it does make a fruitier noise than the OE filter. It' s a cheap mod for improved acoustics but don' t expect it to do anything for the power output !

Well, I have an odd filter (I won' t talk about it if you don' t !), which is like a truncated cone (pointed end removed) on my 3.2, which I assume is K&N, but don' t really know. It came with the supercharger, as there was no room left for the normal filter, so was not an option. Really small, mind you, and would make getting at the rest of the engine easier, but for the bl**dy intercooler !

So, apart from it working at all times (what else can it do ?), I can' t really comment on performance. So why am I replying, you may ask ? Well, not only Helen has nothing else to do (at the moment, anyway, apart from debugging my Delphi program, which is driving me up the wall).

[:D]You could save your dosh and just drill 3 large holes in the plastic cover... just like the one you can buy on performance products (usa).. except it' ll cost you zip[8D]

Have a look at http://www.porsche964.co.uk/ to see how to do it.[8|]

But i bet the insurance company may not look at it like that !
Im sure that they will have it written as a performance increase part and therefor a greater risk as it turns you into a " boy racer" !!

I covered all angles when i drilled the 964 air box cover and installed a K&N panel replacement filter by informing the insurance and it cost me £40 more. []
Cup bypass pipe cost me £26 more !! []

Im not going to tell them about the shiny bodywork as the may load me for that also !

I don' t doubt your story, but this is insane. There is no performance increase on a 3.2 from drilling the airbox. Take a look at the airbox and you can plainly see that the restriction (if there really is any) is on the other side of the filter ie., the meter side. This is an acoustical mod not a performance mod. If you were ever denied insurance cover on this basis, I would advise you fight it tooth and nail. It is analogous to being denied cover because you have a pine scented air freshener in the car.
