Kames Race Track?

I was under the impression that Scotland only had 1 track circuit at Knockhill but I came across a thread on Pistonheads about Kames in Muirkirk - http://www.eastayrshirecc.co.uk/.
It's the first I have ever heard of this place and I am just wondering if any of you guys/gals have ever visited it for a track day and your thoughts on it. I know its of no comparsion to Knockhill but it could be an option for me to get some extra track time in if I am going to be doing more with the big boys/gals next year.

Any thoughts from the resident track expert Gordon? I believe its down your neck of the woods.

Edit - Found this footage, looks like it could take its toll on pads/disks/tyres - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W76Zhv-kEgg

Thinks its a short track and youve got to be a member never been but know a few who go will ask details .. also East Fortune track but i think theres a noise problem ,restricting most cars mainly used for bikes G

I go to the sprints at Kames and the hillclimbs at Doune. I usually go and watch my mate and his dad race both their 911 Carrera RS' there (one is a true 73 RS and the other is a backdated body with 73 RS running gear).

At Kames you can become a member for £20 and pay a minimal fee for track time. The track is quite good. Its great for cutting your teeth on and is a great introduction to track driving. The small loop they put in for the rally stage isnt a necessity and usually would be bypassed in a sprint event.

Kames is a reasonable track used mostly for the various sprint championship events throughout the year. I have competed for many years, well since 84, at sprints and hillclimbs in Scotland and rest of UK and Kames is great fun. There are various other circuts in scotland over on east, Aberdeen and Golspienr Inverness. Usually 3 laps, timing to 100th sec and various classes of cars attend. same principle as Hillclimbs but on the flat !! Always been tempted to take my 944s2 and use it but cant deal with the possibility of introducing it to a barrier or the likes .

if anyone wants details of events and how to enter championships or events let me know.

George
