KENTISH WEEKEND TOUR[/b][/b]

Saturday the 9th and Sunday the 10th of June 2007[/b]

Thank you for expressing an interest in this event and welcome to what is shaping up to be a good weekend in good company.

With just four weeks to go, Sue and I have come to the point where we must confirm our arrangements with our various hosts and therefore, now require confirmation from those wishing to join us, by Friday the 18th of May please.[/b]

In order to refresh your memories and update you on the latest developments, details of the event are as follows;-

Saturday the 9th of June.[/b]
[/b]
We shall gather at the[/b] Porsche Centre Tonbridge[/b] from about[/b] 09:30[/b] where our hosts have offered to provide coffee and croissants.

At 10:30, we shall depart for the morning drive[/b] to Sarre which includes some of the best scenes in rural Kent and an optional short refreshment/comfort stop at Beech Court Gardens[/b]. (Entry to the car park and the tea rooms are free).

Arriving at about 12:30, the Crown Inn at Sarre[/b] is a 15th century listed building. Famous for its exclusive Cherry Brandy, it has built a fine reputation for warm and friendly hospitality. We have both a bar menu (recommended for those wishing to continue with us into the afternoon) and a restaurant menu (for those who have other plans). These are available for circulation if required.

Starting the early afternoon drive at about 14:00, we should arrive at Belmont House and Gardens[/b] by about[/b] 15:00[/b]. This beautiful Georgian mansion will be the venue for afternoon tea. The house contains the finest and most extensive range of clocks in the UK. The gardens surrounding the house are a charming mixture of herbaceous, woodland, fruit and vegetables. Please note that entry to the house and garden is now £6 per adult and entry to the garden (including the tea room) is now £3. Arrangements for exclusive parking and catering requirements are dependent upon numbers attending.

From Belmont, we shall continue the afternoon drive to Hollingbourne[/b] where those that have booked accommodation will have some free time before setting out for the evening meal.

The Tickled Trout at West Farleigh[/b] is the venue for our informal dinner. A place of culinary repute, which as the name suggests, specializes in fish (but not exclusively). A menu will not be provided in advance as they provide over 80 different dishes, but you will not be disappointed as the variety is extensive and the meals are wholesome. You will not leave here hungry. Because of its popularity, it does get extremely busy and hence the management insist on restricting each table to eight people. In the circumstances, we have provisionally reserved 3 tables of 8, timed at 19:30, 19:45 and 20:00.[/b][/b]
Sunday the 10th of June[/b]
[/b]
For a number of reasons, Sue and I regrettably announce that the proposed Weald of Kent drive has been abandoned. However, we have produced a more scenic alternative ending at the Knowle Country House Restaurant as originally planned.

We shall gather at the Maidstone Services at Junction 8 on the M20 from about 10:00, departing for the morning drive at 11:00.[/b]
[/b]
Initially heading westwards, we shall loop round in a clockwise direction to Higham. For Kent Region members, this will be a Sunday drive and lunch with a difference. The Knowle Country House Restaurant in Higham [/b]is set in 14 acres of orchards and old English gardens. Egon Ronay has stated that this establishment "specializes in large portions, fresh produce and does not pander to modern fads". The menu tarrif is set at £23.90 (a copy can be supplied upon request). The Garden Room which accommodates a table for 40 has been set aside for a sitting at 13:30[/b]. We feel certain that relaxing on the terrace or in the garden afterwards, will provide the perfect end to a great weekend.

We both look forward to seeing you there, enjoying the company, the varied surroundings and of course, the driving. Whether you wish to participate in just one part or all of the above, we would like confirmation of your attendance by Friday the 18th of May please.
