KEP clutch on 944t

Anyone on here running a Kep (kennedy engineering) pressure plate. Haivng read on rennlist, this together with the southbend drive plate is the best combo. It will cost me about £150 over standard set up. I am probably going overboard with this but if I ever do end up modifying the car more then at least it will handle the power. Car is getting tracked.

Running a KEP stage 2 pressure plate with a lightened original flywheel and 930 clutch disc on the turbo, pleased with this set up.

Some people seem to have had problems with this set up, but was apparently caused by too much crankshaft end play (worn out main/thrust bearing).
Haven't had this problem but mine was fitted on an engine with new main bearings and virtually no crankshaft end play.

The pressure plate is quite stiff and some people suggest fitting it along with a new clutch fork, which isn't quite cheap.

In any case it is important to set the biting point quite low, as a short pedal travel prevents from applying "excessive", unnecessary load on the fork which has to work against a pressure plate much stiffer than the original's.

Ah well, I will maybe just get a standard one. My engine is on 116k. Cheers for the help.

I too have the KEP stage 2 pressure plate with a 930 clutch disk and am also very happy with it. It holds my 480lbft of torque with no problem and is very easy to modulate, no clutch chatter and not too heavy a pedal. As Thom said the biting point is quite low so takes a while to get used to (especially if you other car is an S2 with a 200k mile clutch that bites after about 3" of travel).

Some US people have had problems with this setup but the manufacturers state this is only on old worn engines with lots of crankshaft play (both mine and Thoms are new engines which could explain our lack of incident [:)] )
