Kerbed a wheel

I kerbed a wheel today and feel sick and annoyed. I was approaching a roundabout at low speed with a HGV on my inside. At the last minute the truckie started to move into my lane and clearly had not seen me. I swerved and accelerated away to try and aviod having the left side taken out of the car but caught a kerb on the far side rear damaging a wheel with some unsightly scuff marks. I could easily have commited a serious crime on this guy and I hope his father eventually finds the time to marry his mother.

I kerbed a wheel on my 996 and so have been very very careful and it is so enoying and sickening when this sort of thing happens.

Anyone had any good wheel refurbishment experiences and what should I look out for?

Sorry, not posting to help on wheel refurb place but to say something you probably don't want to hear:

Kerbing may have also messed up the wheel alignment and you will probably need a check... [:(]

Chipsaway offer on-site repairs have used my local man for past 5 years never any problems and now he is independant of Chipsaway prices are really keen [;)] He can usually do a wheel in about 30 minutes from start to finish.

The OPC quoted me about £60 a corner for rim refurb following a similar incident - directly going to the "man in the van" may be cheaper. In addition to Kish's comments, check very carefully that you haven't damaged a tyre. I clipped a kerb and took a slice out of the sidewall deep enough to see the steel belting. Ouch....

Dappula my man charges between £20-35 depending on how mullered the rim is at the time [8D]

I've just had a refurb done on my front O/S by Wicked Wheels for £80. It cost a little more as apparently the Carrera S 5 spoke with the square and triangular holes are difficult to paint without getting runs?

However, that was to paint the whole wheel as I had damaged the inner ring (dropped whilst off the car) and not the rim, maybe you can get away with just the rim - good luck, I know there is nothing more annoying!

Thanks for all the advice guys. I will check all these points carefully once I have calmed down. Still have fire and smoke coming out of my ears at present

Commiserations, but here's a tip for the future..

always check for an extra mirror above the side window of the cab - if its left hand drive it MUST have an extra mirror so that the driver can see whats alongside him/her to the right side. Probably won't take any notice of your presence but it might make you think about being alongside at the roundabout next time

I actually did the right rear wheel. Was trying to park it two wheels up the kerb and messed up my angle of approach.
