Key differences between Boxster and Boxster S

Boxster23

New member
Hi all,

I am a new memeber searching for a Boxster ideally 03 upwards with a budget of around £9-10k and was wondering if anybody could clarify the differences between the Boxster and the Boxster S also i believe there have been changes over the years, what years from 03 have their been facelift changes i.e. what differentiates them?

For my budget what kind of cars will i find there seem to be more 3.2's than 2.7 ideally i want a 2.7

What common faults may i experience and what should i look out for when viewing?

Thanks for your help in advance!

The last update to the 986 series cars was for model year 2003, so from sept '02.

Redesigned bumpers
Clear indicators
Glass rear window in roof
Glovebox
2.7 engine up to 228bhp, 3.2 possibly went from 255 to 260
New wheel designs
Cd radio changed to cdr-23

S cars always had the following over STD car

Part leather seats
17" wheels vs 16"
6 speed gearbox
Bigger and cross drilled brakes with red calumets
Bigger engine

If you search back a few weeks you'll find the same questions over what goes wrong and what to look for.

The price you pay obviously depends on what extras you opt for. A basic, higher mileage, 3.2S will be at the top end of your budget - add traction control, heated seats, cruise control, climate control, zenon headlights, etc. and the price will rise accordingly.
Prime thing to look for is full history - either Porsche or Porsche specialist.

Thanks alot for your response,i have read about the 986 and the 987 what are differences between them?

What are your thoughts on Porsche specialist service history over Dealership?

If you had issues with your car would go with a dealer or use a specialist for cost?
