Key Fob problems

Hi All,

Am after some assistance her. I have a 2002 Boxster S that i bought about 18 months ago. Love the car and have never really had too many issues with upkeep or technical problems. This was until last week when I pressed the remote key fob to unlock my car and nothing happened. I tried every concevable angle around the car but still nothing and the bonnet and boot lock too were inoperable. I tried my spare (used to be the main key before I swapped them over) key but again the same issue. I unlocked the car via the key and went to my local OPC who to be fair were very helpful. We changed the battery in both keys and now my main key works intermittently and the spare key fob still doesnt want to work at all.

Went back to the OPC yesterday and have been told that the next step is for new remote key fobs and circuit boards to be ordered, coded and matched up costing about £80 plus VAT for the key fob and £52 plus VAT to code them. Not sure if this is a bit steep for this or if im just annoyed that I cant unlock my car remotely.

Any thoughts, previous experiences or ideas would all be gratefully received.

Cheers

Dan

The car won't respond to the key if you have not usedit for 5 days (but I suspect you know that).

Did the OPC try re-setting the keys to the alarm? As you can do this I would not expect all items to need replacing (if - IF - there is a fault) only one of them. They can be programmed to each other so only the fualty item needs replacing.

What happens we you go on holiday for a week? - you come home and the remotes dont work? Have I misunderstood?

You go back to the stone age and use the key to open it [:D]

Actual sequence is:

Put key in lock and turn
Interior lights come on as you "wake the car up"
Press alarm button on key.
Open door.

Easy-peasey [:)] (and the reason is to save the car battery, the RF "seek" circuit is shut down).

Thanks Guys, My OPC (Silverstone) didn't do the whole polarity check and reversing batteries. They just took the batteries out of my main key fob and spare and replaced with new ones. The major problem that I'm having here is that the problem is so intermittent. I had quite a good day yesterday with the key fob working about 60% of the time but today......nothing, neither key wants to know.

I have booked it in with OPC Silverstone to have a new fob ordered and coded but something in the back of my mind thinks there must be an easier answer ?????
