Key not working

SC50

New member
After leaving the car over winter on a trickle charger, I used the
key to open the door but nothing happened so changed the batteries
in the key and still no unlocking of the car. Anybody got any
ideas to check next.

When you say "used the key to open the door" do you mean by using the physical key in the lock, or the remote? The key does not need batteries to operate the door lock itself, so it should work no problem. If you are talking about the remote not unlocking the car this is normal behavior and is covered in the car handbook. After a few days of not being used the car switches off the sensor that detects signals from your key remote to prevent a flat car battery. To re-enable the system unlock the drivers door using the key in the lock to reactivate the system. The remote will now operate normally.

Hope this helps,

Andy

It depends on the model.....certainly with the 986 you need to put the key in the lock....unlock the car, them immediately lock it again to wake the alarm sensor...then open in the normal manner with the remote. If you only unlock it manually and don't immediately lock it with the key...when you open the door the alarm sounds until you stop it with the remote!!

My 986 S definately needs the lock operating with the key to re-enable the system - lifting the door handle does nothing. I use the key to re-enable, then press the lock/unlock button on the remote before opening the door. This prevents the alarm from setting off.

Thanks for all the help. The key fob is working fine. The system just needed
resetting by lifting the door handle
