hi can a key fob that has been used on a preious porsche boxter be reprogrammed to work on my 996 with regards to alam and imobiliser and can anyone other than porsche do the job thanks peter

To be able to program a key for your car you need 3 things .... Either a PIWIS or a PST2, the IPAS Learning Code for your car and the programming code that comes with the key. The IPAS code you should be able to get from your dealer, although you may have to prove you own the car, and even then they maybe reluctant to give you it. The latter code will only be provided with a new key from the parts department, it wouldn't come with the original keys that came with your car.

Edit: 4 things .... the last is the instructions on how to do the coding .... it isn't simple. I have done this in the past (I own a PST2 and PIWIS btw)

Porsche store the original remote and immobiliser codes on the IPAS system for each car, but the chances of you being able to get the codes for your old Boxster are virtually non-existent.
