I seem to have misplaced a set of keys for my 944. Does anyone have any experience of getting new sets made up? Is it a job for an OPC?

I had a spare set made for my S2 by Timpson - £8 for one or £12 for 2! It's not got the porsche logo on the key and is a generic brand but it works perfectly.

If you need the immobiliser fob you should check what model you have, I have a Hamilton and Palmer one and they supplied a replacement for £42 inc VAT & shipping, all you need to do is call them with your immobiliser 5 digit code from which they can program the fob - turnaround was 48 hours for me but you have to catch them when the chap is there to do them and I think they said tuesday's & thursday's. Call 01732760022 or google their website.
(if you can't find the number in your paperwork then you can either find it on the side of the alarm ecu or take your existiing fob, assuming you didn't loose both, to an OPC and they may have the kit to read it - not all do though, luckily some old paper work of mine had the code noted)

I'll second Timpsons - I can see our branch from where I am standing! It will be on a generic VW shaft but it works just fine.

or you could order a crested & VW style spare from the US for £30 for both and them cut over here (thats what I did)
