kick-down switch

hello all,
my name is eric and i'm new to this forum.
i've recently bought a "94" 928 gts auto. on reading the drivers manual i find that the kick-down function may be activated by
1) rapidly depressing the accelerator pedal, or
2) via the kick-down switch.
my query is - what/where is the kick-down switch.
thanks in anticipation.

Hi Eric :)

OK...the "KICKDOWN SWITCH" is at the bottom (under) of the pedal...so basically when you floor the pedal ,then the switch will activate and the autobox will change down a gear or two...

Which works fine but you REALLY have to stamp the pedal to the floor...

There is another way....much better lol

You wire in a standard toggle switch into the dash or near the steering wheel (preferably with a light in the switch) and when you flick the toggle ON ,then the kickdown is MANUALLY activated and the SLIGHTEST throttle pressure makes the box change down...and it totally transforms the car...

All it costs is an illuminated toggle and a few feet of wire to connect to the switch wiring under the pedal...

Its the best and cheapest modification you can do to any 928.... :)

All the best Brett :)

Hi Eric!
I fully agree with Brett's explanation but would add the following: on my 95 GTS you can achieve kickdown (I think it's referred to as the "dyamic kickdown" in the manual) by stepping on the gas pedal quickly/unexpectedly/briefly (you don't have to go all the way to the floor) I am not sure whether this works on all 928s but it works well enough on mine. Have only had mine for a couple of years now so I happily leave Brett to have the last word since he has more experience. Needless to say do be careful till you get used to it.

Best wishes

Hi Gene :)

It works on vacuum in your case I think as it sounds like the modulator has been slightly adjusted on the autobox to give you a more sensitive kickdown....

All the best Brett :)

Hi Brett!

Thank you for the explanation. I only mentioned it since it was something mentioned in the manual which I did not understand until I stumbled on it! Quite a surprise it was too!

Hi Gene :)

I bet it was a suprise lol, it transforms a 928 when activated :)

All the best Brett :)

Hi Stewart :)

Glad it worked but be careful with it, first gear starts under full power in the wet can be fun to say the least :)

All the best Brett :)
