Kids airbag kit and booster seat

Need some guidance. My 997 had an airbag deactivation switch fitted so the missus was happy with kids sat in the front. Question is my kids are 5 and 8 so with the 993's difference of size is there a need to have an airbag kit fitted for them to b in the front and is it possible on a 993? Also the rear seats seem too small for a booster seat and the seat belt height on the kids seems ok without one. What do others think?? Tks

Hi,

my 8 (soon to be 9) year old fits in the back without any form of booster cushion or child seat. I've been through the range of Porsche seats when the children were younger.

I believe you can have a deactivation kit fitted to the front passenger seat. I wouldn't sit a child in the front without deactivating the airbag. I avoid the problem by making sure the sprogs only ever sit in the back.

the Porsche 993 manual's instructions are when carrying a child ( not baby) in the front passenger seat to adjust the seat as far back as it can go. Of course these were instructions from the mid 90's , more up to date information might contradict this.

ref rear seats, use the same solutions all other aircooled Porsche owners use .... I have 2 maxi-cosi rodi booster seats that fit in the rear of my 1973 car ........ unfortunatley I only have lap belts in the 993 so this renders the rear seats useless at the moment [:(]

Very helpfull tks I'll see if an OPC can fit the airbag kit. Kids seem fine in the back without boosters as the belts sit at the right parts of thier bodies

only 97 model year cars are suitable for the deactivation kit!! but you could always just unplug the airbag control unit and kill the whole system!! if your cars not a 97my. or you could get under the dash and disconnect the passenger airbag and fit a 2.5ohm resistor to the loom to keep the light out.

I'm not really any good with electrics, but by the sounds of this it should be easy to fit an on/off switch into the airbag circuit ?
