Kinematic Toe

Despite extensive reasearch I can never find too much definatively on this thorny 993 topic!

My quandry relates to the fact with the 993 I end up using Porsche/Lloys autobody to do my alignment as they have the mythical kinematic toe tool. That ends up c £250 a pop.

The excellent guy who used to run my racing cars has all the kit and can set up the RS for buttons, including corner weighting. Given he is a pal I can help so much more fun.

Given the fact the thing needs regular setting up if it is used on the track or if suspension bits are changed (like now as i have just changed rear top mount) I was thinking of either:

1. Buying the mythical tool from the US for $350 or

2. Replacing the kinematic toe link with a rose jointed fabriacated link

The more I think about it the more I like the latter route given it should I imagine create more purity in the handling by removing the toe correcting link. The down side is I suppose loosing the change in toe and so increasing lift off oversteer?

My question is has anyone else done this or bought the tool or have any useful suggestions!!!

I had the kinematic toe on mine dialled out completely, the rear does appear to be a bit more sensitive to throttle input mid corner.

I cant see what diff a fabricated link will make.
All other 911 suffer with toe change through the range of suspension travel,the 993 has addressed the problem to a greater degree with Kin toe.
I have struggled with the Kin tool that opc use,the motorsport version is better and quicker to use,and they have a fair range that it sits in.Once the Kin toe is set correctly,it does not seem to move far out.

It may be mid corner throttle response is,perhaps you have had or has been fitted the solid rear frame mounts,or lsd.

could be the Motorsport LSD I fitted. Haven't done the solid frame mount yet.

I thought some of the kinematic toe effect was added by the kinematic arm having compliance in the bushing allowing toe in to occur under the forces induced by lifting?

I have the gt2 subframe bushes and have also read that they reduce the kine toe effect by inclining the rear sub frame?

If you set up the car using normal methods and tools incl corner weighting what is involved/different when the special tool is added?

The guy I have used on all my other cars and raing cars is called Dave harwood. He runs lots of single seaters and is great. It is with Dave I am trying to reasearch the Kinematic mystery and the need/otherwise of the tool to help us understand what we need to watch out for as the rest of the set up is like anything else.
