KN Drive shaft wear
- Thread starter tiskev
- Start date
The drive shaft bearing needed changing on both cars the bad news is
the bearing cannot be replaced separately and the whole drive shaft
needed replacing, both cars were relatively low milage.
Apparently checking the drive shaft is not part of a Porsche service.
As you did not get the rumble the last time you reversed into the garage, is it possible that on the previous occasion you were reversing.....:
- over small children or animals present on the drive at the time;
- through an encampment of anti-capitalist protesters;
- into someone else's garage?

I think it was Sherlock Holmes who said something about once you have eliminated the impossible, you should examine the improbable or summat.
"How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?"
Sherlock Holmes, The Sign of Four by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

It is a bit of a mystery how it comes and goes .As before it started when putting it into the
garage on about3/4 lock .
Anyone else get this intermittant noise ? do you think I am right assuming
it is the drive shafts ?
Would you drive it 600 miles back to UK ?

But Its definitely their intermittently and they have heard it happen once. On Rocking (I mean turning by hand) the front center drive shaft, it obviuosly turns the wheels but hey presto a very similar noise can be replicated - so final analysis is slight wear and tear in the joints which when hot after a decent run seems to show up....but only sometimes. The techs said they would not advise to go looking for something by replacing parts. So I'm kinda happier now!!
BTW Porsche across the country are having a open workshop for all Cayennes to be given the once over checkup by one of their trained technicians - Early March I believe the 4th.
Anyone else having or had these noises??
What was your outcome?

Just do not understand why the noise is so acute when it occurs but when cols or just warm
No noise or probs can be found.
It is the same with the ,door mirrors nothing can be done about them unless a ,procedure is
Started ,that could run into hundreds of pounds (sorry for ,the commas the iPad has a diction of its own )
