Knock sensor, CPS

Just looking for the location of both.

I've switched fuel from esso to shell vpower, and I've noticed that the car seems a little more erratic on tickover (sometimes hunts a small amount when clutch is in dropping from higher revs) and a little more lumpy tickover.

MAF and coils were replaced this year.

I can't seem to find cam position sensors or knock sensor/s locstion in the manual.

Cheers.

If you have the 1999 Service Technik [;)] take a look at section 2, which describes the sensors and their location. On RoW cars there is only one cam position sensor on bank 1. US cars have two.

They look like a bit of a mission to get to.

Would you happen to know which bank has the CPS on a Euro C2?

Cheers,

Oh, also I've had the battery off and tray out to check the water channels and hoover out the leaves etc that were down there.

I read that you need to reset a few bits by turning the ignition on for one minute then turning off for 10 seconds then back on - I'll give that a go in a moment too.

Cheers,

When I say RoW, I mean everywhere except the USA/Canada. So the CPS is on bank 1.

If you disconnected the battery it will reset the adaption values in the DME. The routine for switching on for 60 seconds and then off for 10 seconds only works for cars with electronic throttle, and yours has cable throttle IIRC.

Cheers - so it's on the passenger side to the rear of the engine compartment looking at the diagram you posted, but bank 1 is at the rear of the passenger side (near the pulleys?)

Any idea how to get to it? It seems it should be above the vaccum oil pump near the AOS bellow, but I've had a look around and reviewing my close up photos of that area I just can't work out where it's supposed to be and where the connector is for it.

Thanks,

Steve

It should be somewhere near the Variocam solenoid iirc. The diagram is showing the sensor on the right hand bank (bank 2) of a USA car. On yours, there will only be one, on the left hand head.

Aha! Sorry I thought you meant Cylinder bank 1, now it makes sense :)

If it is indeed the reverse of the one near bank 4 then it 'should' be right next to the AOS bellow - juding by the fact I can't even see it in the pictures I have taken up close, I don't think it's going to be an easy thing to get to!

On the plus side, the one minute ignition thing then switching off seemed to fix the hunting at idle since disconnecting the battery?

And yes it is a wire.

Bank one is cylinders 1-2-3 on the left side, and bank two is 4-5-6 on the right side.

I'll see if I can find a diagram of the location of the cps ......

You obviously know your way around it :)

I searched from the index for camshaft position sensor, cam sensor, hall effect sensor, but didn't find anything other than in the tear down section of the engine (which didn't help :)). I think my failure was due to the -

Thanks
