Knockhill Trackday

Hi guys,

I have spoken with a friend who works at the track, and i have proposed an idea to run a prestige track day a Knockhill in the coming months.

They are very interested in the idea as it will promote business for them and if we keep it Porsche Club GB then it will promote the forum too!

Is there anyone who would be interested in this as i need numbers before a price can be established.

If anyone has friends with other prestige vehicles, let them know and see if they are interested or we can keep it as a porsche day.

Certainly , years ago Knockhill used to do the Supercar test day. It was a great success although the Ferrari guys did not like mixing it with the Porsche trackies. The day was however subsidised by the main dealers so costs were low. If Knockhill are keen to have this day in order to attract punters to see the cars its important to have as big a variety as possible , just Porsches wont work. Obviously as drivers we can book into any of the Hot Marques days so this day would have to have some sort of exclusivity about it. Its also worth noting that Knockhill knocks the crap out of the brakes of our cars on a trackday as there are 2 heavy braking areas and the lap is too short to adequately then cool them so there is a wear and tear expense that needs to be factored in when commiting to a Knockhill day. I summary its nice to show up to an exclusive day and feel a special part of it.

Depends how "prestige" the day is......if I stick a Ferrari sticker on my Westfield can I come to play? Depends on the format and pricing (catch-22) but without wanting to be negative it's been tried before and failed - price would have to be competitive (for example KH are running their own day in July for £165), and I think an afternoon only might be the best format as few of the owners of prestige cars want a full day as its very wearing on the cars like Mike says. I'd also suggest it would have to be a weekend in order to get the numbers, as the reason people have these cars is they work hard for the cash to pay for them - weekday will end up with fewer confirming up-front. I wouldn't be too aggressively limiting the numbers, as with the "RS" day you will tend to find there is more chat in the paddock than action on track and the track can be almost too quiet at times....take the max number of cars KH will allow.

Sounds interesting. I realise you are just at a preliminary stage here, but it would be better if you had agreed in principle some pricing. As in, if 20 agree to go it costs X and if 50, Y etc. I would be interested in attending, but would need details before committing. Good luck tho' as it sounds like a good idea. Archie.

I could be interested, but would need a date and approximate cost before I could commit. Who are you proposing runs it? Yourself or Knockhill? Most prefer track days organised by a recognised body for Insurance cover. Ask Knockhill for available Days or Evenings and approximate cost based on the maximum cars they would run and also on 50% of maximum. Alan.

Yep, I would be interested. Again weekend and probably an afternoon to allow for travel time from Aberdeen. I recently done a performance driving lesson in my boxster at knockhill and really enjoyed it, a hot hatch track day is too risky for my pride and joy, but an exclusive day (where most people treasure they cars) would be a definite goer for me. Cost wise, I'd be willing to pay up to about £100 for an exclusive afternoon, but lets see what the costs work out to be. Knockhill have there overheads and we either have enough interest or not. Could club funds make up the deficit, as I can't particularly see where our club funds get spent up proper north!!! Phil

As an ex-RO I can tell you there is ZERO chance of the club putting anything towards this. If you knew how little of the membership fee came back to the region for each member you'd understand why you see so little of the money being spent - by the time any admin costs are covered and any notional concours costs then there is very very little left at the end, certainly not the thousands it would cost to subsidise a track day.

just typed a large reply and it crashed, [] I am happy to assist in anyway possible with circulating on emails and club magazine. There is no funds available, the limited cash goes on concours prizes, subsidised entry, family BBQ, member of the year prize, sandwiches for evening talks, prizes for treasure hunts etc, I would expect Knockhill will be about £5k for a day at least and someone needs to underwrite that and then hopefully sell the spaces. You could try getting them to reserve a day and see if you can sell all the spaces to fund it and then pay the track, (trust me its not easy) Very happy to help so give me a call if you like. regards Scott RO Region 1 07803260417

+1 - appreciate your efforts in this regard.
