Know of decent independent in Staffs / Midlands.

I'm new to this site as I intend to be a 996 owner in the v. near future, and was after some info from anyone who can recommend a decent independent from experience (not heard it down the pub) as I would be requiring them to carry out a check on a car if I was buying it privately. Have read various threads about RMS and other engine problems, but I am also well aware that if people are very pleased with a car they tend to tell a few people about it, but if you have a problem with a car you tend to tell loads of people and make a noise about it - especially if its a Porsche.

I would second the recommendation for PCT. BTW Autobahn and PCT are the same business. Autobahn is sales and PCT is servicing.

Ian.

Bought my car from Autobahn, good people and pretty helpful.

PCT are actually a separate company but in the same building and work together. PCT have done some bits for me -all ok!

Would recommend both!

Zentrum are good - £35 an hour labour charge for porsche qualified mechanic.

Thankyou for all your replies - they are very useful. I have been to see a couple of cars, R Reg 50 to 60k miles and to be honest they were absolutely terrible! Advertised as "pristine" - one even had rust on the sill and overspray on the headlights - ok, it looked very shiny and the tyres were nicely blackened, but look closely and it was an absolute nail in my eyes - the guy still wanted £27,000 for it, I walked away (in fact I think I ran away!!) If anyone can offer advice on some decent places to buy one, I understand that I am looking for an early one around the 27 to 29k mark which the dealers will not bother with, so would be grateful of any info on some reputable independent dealers. The one that I went to in the south shall remain nameless!!!!!

This isn't a pop at you hothatch but more a general thought. I can guess why you didn't want to say where this car was but in not wanting to name the dealer got me thinking why we would want to protect those who seek to mislead? I personally think that we shouldn't be afraid to name names if it would assist other members of the forum from not wasting time or buying a car from those who seek to bend the truth.

By telling others that a car that was offered for sale didn't turn out to be as advertised hardly seems to be committing a henious crime, far from it, more a public service to not only assit the members of this forum but nudging the dealers into being a tad more accurate when describing their stock. None of use seem to worry too much when praising a service, so why do we baulk at exposing the less than honest?

OK rant over and I expect there will be someone who will point out the risk of liable but why should we put up with this type "truth bending" when we are preparing to hand over what amounts to be a very large wad of cash.

Good point - well put! The reasons for not naming and shaming is in case someone decides to try and sue me - highly unlikely, but you never know. I supose I should have pointed out that he was a trader not a dealer, based near Uxbridge, name begins a D, kind of Italian sounding. That is about as close as you can get without naming them!!!!
