Koni Adjustables - spring probs - any clues?

I mentioned a while ago that I'd picked up some Koni adjustables for my 968 Sport which according to the parts list were 944 M474.
Original stickers 951 343 031/032 06 and stamped on the side with number and instructions on adjustment.

Now having stripped down the front, cleaned up, all new bushes and bolts etc have come to assemble the front springs and shocks.

Slight problem in that the bottom spring mount on the shock is about 125mm across but my springs are 105mm across[&:][&:][&:][&:]

Looking at the parts list for pre '89 944s those shocks come up with that part number, but looking at the pics have no mounting plates attached for the brake lines/electrical lines.
But the pics show what looks like a bigger diameter spring and the top spring washer is a different part number to the later 944 & 968. But - think I'm confused now - the top spring washer on the later, '89 on, 944 M030 has the same part number as the earlier 944. Also the 968 M030 top spring washer is the earlier 944 part number.
So do I need the M030 springs from the later 944? Are the M030 springs on the later 944's and 968 M030 a bigger diameter than the normal 944 & 968?

Also which springs to give the right ride height?

My springs at the moment are 32cm length on the bench.

Any help much appreciated.

Cheers
Dave

Dave are these the shocks you got from me?
Sorry I dont know a lot about them, I got them off ebay a while back.
I do have a box of springs from other shocks, I think a pair of each dia, you can have them for nothing if they will help!

Tom thats very kind, are they new or do you have a part number or a coloured mark on them? Or could you measure the length of the bigger diameter springs for me?
I need to ensure I end up at approx the right ride height.

Cheers
Dave

They are 2nd hand, I have never put them on my car, not even sure how, when or why I got them. I just been to my box of porsche bits and it turns out I only have one set of springs, but also in the box is another set of koni shocks! I think they are the same as you have part number 951-343-032-02. The springs dont seem to have any part numbers on them, just two blobs of yellow paint. The springs fit the koni shocks, I dont have any way to measure them, no tape measure or even a ruler. If you think they sound like the right ones I will take them to work and measure them up.

Thanks Tom. If you could measure the outside diameter and their length that would be good.
No idea what the shocks are as can't see that part number on the PET anywhere on 944.

Cheers

I haven't quite followed all the details on this thread, but not all 944's had the same diameter of spring. I replaced the shocks on my S2 with Koni items (the aftermarket ones, not the M474 or M030 ones), and nearly bought some new springs from another 944 enthusiast who was selling them; I was keen to replace the springs as well as the shocks and he had a spare set in his garage.

He measured them for me, and the diameter was wrong, as you said. I never got to the bottom of the reasoning for it, but I think (!) it was an early model vs. late model issue. And it's not much publicised on here.

Suffice it to say that I didn't buy the springs off the member in question, and he was quite decent about the whole thing (I can't remember who it was now - 'hello' if you are reading this.) I seem to recall that he had bought them as part of an offer, or something, and couldn't remember too clearly their provenance.

Oli.

Tom thanks for that. I'll have those please. They are longer but the spring mounting on the shock is lower relative to the stub axle compared to the original so not far out.
I'll try them and if too long will sort it.
You don't happen to have the top spring washers as well do you?

Try and tee up for sunday morning if thats OK. Message me your address again.

Cheers
Dave

Can't remember the answer Dave - came across this myself, had the same problem with my brothers car c'87 944. Replacement dampers had larger diameter spring seats but we had smaller diameter springs! Back to larger diameter 944 springs and top spring seats! From memory, yes m030 larger spring diameter (larger body diameter also)
