Koni Shocks Group Buy

Chaps,

I am chasing this up on the TIPEC forum as well, but there were mutterings a while ago about a Koni Shock Group Buy.

I don't know whether it happened - did it? (If it is in the process of happening, can I join?)

If it didn't, would anyone be interested if I looked into it?

I started a thread a few months back, but didn't generate enough interest. I'm, still looking to do mine when funds allow, so if a good enough deal came along I'd be up for it. I think the best price I've come across so far was on motorsportworld.co.uk

OK, I'll find out the price from K300 and see how many people could be interested in a group buy.

If you ARE interested (a priori), please put your name down here ... No commitment, just gauging numbers.

Guys,

Looking into this, I have heard some slightly conflicting things about the Koni parts, and others have suggested that back to standard may be a good (if not better) way to go. To this end, I have just had an interesting series of eMails with Max from frazerpart (www.frazerpart.com), who I have ordered from before with a very satisfactory outcome. They have offered the following for a standard S2 (assuming you have the 21.5mm dia front Anti Roll Bar and the 16mm dia rear Anti Roll Bar):

Boge front struts and rear shocks
Front ARB Mounting Bushes
Rear ARB Mounting Bushes
Front ARB Droplink Bushes
Tie Rods

For £576, inc VAT and delivery

They can also offer the 968 front wishbone rear mounts for £82 a pair (which I think are the dealer price), and new Rear Droplinks for £103.50p each.

If you buy all the above together then there is a further £29 discount. (i.e. £836.00 instead of £865.00)

I'm not sure how a group discount will work on this - I think that these prices apply for a single order, or for more than one, but if lots of people all want these bits then I'll ask nicely and see. I won't be ordering for a couple of weeks yet, so no rush. (I don't have a 944 to fit these to at the moment - still in a Boxster courtesy car!)

Let me know if you are interested, or you could order directly from Max if you didn't want to give the group buy thing a whirl.

Charles,

Get yourself onto the Titanic list - detailed discussion about the comparison there!

In a nutshell ... Box is much much crisper, probably because of the fact that 120k miles on shocks and bushes takes it's toll on the S2 (hence this thread ... ) Turn-in is magical, but high-speed stability is not as good (despite higher milage on S2).

Box is uninspiring in low ranges, but has a sharp increase in pep at around 5k rpm. And sounds delicious when it gets there. Generally though I think it is a slower car than the S2. (Not sure what the figures say.)

However the Box (56 plate, 2.7) feels slightly nanny-ish, getting very nanny-ish when you drive it hard. It has PSM, and if you try to do something you shouldn't, it tells you off and brings everything back into line. You REALLY need to try to get the back end out. If you give it too much beans on take-off, it cuts the power. If you don't give it enough beans, it ups the power. The traction control cuts in at various times and keeps you nice and safe. I REALLY don't like this. (It even won't let you open the doors unless it thinks things are safe.)

Of course, I could turn the PSM off, but it's a courtesy car so I don't want to chance it ... (moi? Coward? Damn right.)

An interesting observation is that the 944 and the Boxster are worthy of comparison. Despite my S2 being 20 years old (and based on a design that's much more than this.) That is seriously impressive.
