krikit

hi

i have the chance of buying a krikit and was wondering if anyone has used one for setting the tension on their timing belt etc and if they thought that it was a worth while purchase

Hi
A friend who has done many belts replacement has one but finds the 90° twist method good enough.
I'm not sure it's a worthwhile purchase but then if you're not sure of yourself when you twist the belts it may be better than not using anything at all.

I thought the Krikit wasn't suitable for use on the S2 or Turbo, but never understood why? (I could be wrong in this.)

I second the 90degree twist method. It's all my indie uses ... (I discovered, to my slight surprise, when I took it there to be tested 1500 miles after the belts were changed.)

Oli.

Me too. On the S2 with the much-improved tensioner I agree that the quarter-turn is adequate. That's what I used but was panicked into going to PCT - they used the proper tool to check but announced the tension was fine.

I have done many cambelts using the twist method with no problems.

I have used a Krikit on 944's and it is a lot more accurate than the twist method but a bit of a pain to use until you get used to it.

Not done S2 but for the turbo you can use a Krikit if you remove the idler roller to make room.

Krikit is not as good for the balance belt as the belt has teeth on both sides and the tension is off the bottom of the scale.
