KW 3 install

KW3 install on Wednesday - woohoo ; cant wait !

A few months into ownership and no major expenses have come up so i feel good about
a bit of a spending spree and new suspension was top of the list.

I had good reports on Centre Gravity & Unit 911 but in the end am going with Red Line Racing
at Teeside , mainly for convenience & the fact that they did a good job setting up the Bilsteins on
my previous 964t . The parts are arriving tomorrow so i havnt had chance to see any instructions
I will probably ask for a soft setting to work up from & ask for a little higher than RS ride height.

Only downside is that i go to Greece on thursday so i wont get much chance to
test it out !

Let me know how you get on bud. I pick my 964 up on Saturday and the KW suspension is on my list of to-do's!

I popped into Redline a few weeks ago and I was impressed by the set-up. From talking to the guys it seems they manily specialise in newer Porsches, therefore it would be good to get your feedback :)

Will do , and look forward to seeing your new purchase.
Redline have the equipment needed for setting up older Porsches.
JCT & others use them for this.

No probs bud, i'll get a few photos up after ive detailed the car to within an inch of its life on the weekend!

BTW I went with Guards Red in the end. The car was spot on in every other detail (I hope!), so I couldnt let colour sway me!

Anyway, red's the fastest colour!

I am 99.99999% certain you're going to love the KWs [:D]

Hi Steve, any setting pointers for the KWs? I've just bought a C2 with KWs on it and was wondering how stiff you are running yours fr/rr?

Cheers
Nick

Congratulations on the new acquisition Nick - look forward to seeing it this summer [:)]

Mine are currently set where they were when Unit 11 installed them. That's medium for bump and rebound all round which equates to 1.5 x anti-clockwise turns from full hard for rebound and 1 x anti-clockwise turns from full hard for bump. At these settings I would say it's a bit harsh for regular road use but was great on its first track outing. I aim to experiment more in the summer but the rebound on the rear shocks will be a pain to change as the blower needs to be removed for access. The right side is not too bad as only the air box cover has to be removed.

Possibly not for me coming from my 944t on ever so stiff Bilstein Cup set up...?![:D]

Aaahh....but you won't have noticed the bump steer with the engine in the wrong place. [;)]

It's quite a surreal feeling when you're steering hard to the left and the car jumps to the right! :ROFLMAO:

That doesn't sound too good?! Is it hopping over bumps then?

depends on the ride height.

the only solution for bump steer is 993 Evo uprights and hubs, and steering arms... around 1700 euros, plus geo.

However - what Steve hasn't tried yet, is knocking the damping right down, on my PSS10 dropping them to softest makes for nice country lane driving, then back up hard for track work.

As Matt said, my ride height is set low (RS spec) so it does tend to hop over big bumps in the road. Yours is not as low at the moment which was plain to see when our cars were parked next to each other at Unit 11 today. Looks really nice BTW [;)]

Just back from RLR and want to post first impressions - calm & stable spring to mind. Steering is much
smoother and more direct and has lost its front-end woollyness. Not too harsh over bumps ( set at 33% hard)
and doesnt crash over potholes.Overall a big improvement in feel that to me is priceless.

I weighed them all ( on bathroom scales ) for a rough comparison;
Stock Front 5.5 kg Rear 6.5 kg
KW3 Fr. 4.75 kg R. 5.4 kg

The job went smoothly & cost just over £500 all in for my car.[:)] Hope to get out on some more challenging roads
later before i have to go on holiday[8D]

Not necessarily. You can get a bump steer correction kit from Elephant Racing for a 944T so i'm sure you'll be able to get it for a 964. I suffered minor bump steer on mine when the front was really really low (i've just had it raised an inch). I thought it was quite exciting when you were going in a straight line, one wheel would go over a large hump in the road and the car would suddenly change direction requiring a steering input to correct and remain in a straight line. The car tracks straight and true hands free over varying road cambers.
