KW settings

I have recently had KW variant 3 fitted to my turbo by RPM and am impressed with it so far. However, I have not yet played around with the settings as I dont fully understand the relationship between bump and rebound and how adjusting one affects the other. At the moment everything is set in the middle adjustment (position 10 of 20 I believe), which is probably a little firm for road use and too soft for track, but certainly an improvement over previous M030. Can anyone shed any light on the bump/rebound rates, or as a starting point what settings are other KW users using?

Gratuitous picture of the 944 in its unaccustomed position outside the garage!

Hi Steve,

Congratulations on fitting one of the finest suspension kits around at the moment. Assume you have Variant 3?

Bump and rebound refer to the damper settings that are adjustable with the KW set-up.

[1] Bump (compression) is the rate at which the spring is controlled during compression.
[2] Rebound is the rate at which the spring is controlled during recoil.

As a very general rule, compression adjustments effect the 'stiffness' and rebound adjustments effect the way the car reacts to bumps. For example, on a smooth circuit, you would not want the front suspension recoiling too quickly after braking for a corner (as this could cause understeer - due to the spring pushing the front up too quickly).

If you are not running with the KW recommended road settings, I would try starting with both front and rear settings in the middle of their range of adjustment. Assuming you are using the car on the road, reduce the compression settings until you are comfortable with the ride. If you drive on very smooth roads, you can experiment with re-bound being increased (on the front in particular). However, it is down to personal preference.

If you need some further info (for example, the standard settings and what we recommend to customers), please contact Andy Everett on 01296 714857. Andy can advise you on the settings we use (as specified by KW) when car's are set-up with the KW suggested settings.

Regards,
Andrew

Thanks Andrew, that's very helpful. I do indeed have variant 3.
I will have a little play around. It is a bit skittish over bumpy roads so needs to be softer for the road. Cant wait to see what it is like on track - the evening dates at Silverstone would seem to be an ideal opportunity.

I'll be there (at Silverstone) - should be awesome.

I remember being there as a spectator in 2005 - it was awful not being on the track.

See you there?

I`m up for it. The last time I met Andrew and the lads at a Silverstone evening the thermostat stuck and the car kept boiling over [&:]
