Lack of heat?

Can anyone give me any pointers to a lack of heat in the cabin, the rear blower appears to be working and the cabin fans are ok,where to next? Thanks for any help.

That'l be the front servos, or heater tubes, unless you have heat coming from the rear arch.

Servos can be problematic. Open the luggage bonnet, get someone to turn the heating controls from blue dot to red and vice versa, check for servo arm movement on the fresh air in.

fan control servos not opening the front flaps to let heat through easy way to test remove plastic drip try at the front under the bonnet held on with 2 screws under it you wil find 2 fan motors attached to the flaps with a rod going to the servos disconnect the rod and push or pull it the flap should move push the rod forward and keep it there and the flap should now be open to let heat through this is not a cure but will lead you in the right direction possible causes faulty servos or heater matrix good luke

I agree it's likely to be a stuck or worn servo. Here's a picture of my heater unit out for refurbishment. My heating system is/was a disaster so it's time for a rebuild.

The other cause of your loss of heat could be your climate control unit. They have a tendency to suffer dry solder joints or microchip malfunction. I recently sent my unit to a specialist in Florida http://www.ecudoctors.com/

They refurbished my unit (as well as turning it around in 10days) for about the price of buying a second hand unit off eBay. Plus they give you a 5-year guarantee. When I sent my unit, I already had a spare unit but it was from a 1990 onwards model and slightly different to my 1989 unit - I think they made a wiring modification. So I part exchanged it against the cost of my rebuild - They may have this unit in stock (non AC)

I also had 3 of the 5 servos that were not working and one of the blower fans (NOT cheap - around £400 each) The servos are scarce and not made anymore.

You can refurbish them yourself if they're just ceased and the potentiometers in reasonable condition. This DIY fix is documented in the Carrera 2/4 enthusiasts companion by Bentley.

The actual matrix itself does not look like it suffers too many failures and is pretty well built. Yo only need to remove it if one of your blower fans fails.

It involved removing the bonnet, fuel tank, fuse box and part of the firewall as well as the radio and the speedo to release a few screws. It took me and a friend 4 hours to strip the unit from the car. You'll also need to disconnect the fuel tank from the fuel pump and so will need axle stands to access the pump from underneath. Make sure you run the fuel to empty :)

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen,I hope Kevin and Ray are right otherwise,Greg,I'll be looking for some thermals.

Hi Greg, managed to have a look at some of my heater problems after getting into the car(see other post that you helped on)and have found that when I dissconect the two solenoid links I get heat.So am I to assume the solenoids are at fault, would they all fail? or is there a relay? I have noticed that nothing moves when I turn the heating up and down but all the fans are working ok.

hi gaz take a look at this it may help went through this my self a while back http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=588612&mpage=1&key=servos&#588612

Thanks for that Ray,I was thinking it was probably the CCU as I couldn't see two servo's going together but you've give me a bit of hope,I'll get into them this weekend and have a look, thanks again for the help.
