laid up insurance..

does anyone have a laid up policy for the winter?.. Mine was converted from my old policy which hadnt run out, but its up for renewal end of this month. Ive been told I can only renew as fully comp, then downgrade, and they have quoted me 2k for fully comp renewal which is a joke; was just over 500 last year..

Have phoned around but not found anyone; people doing laid up policies will only do them if the car is stored at the owners home address and Im using a friends lock-up as there's loads of space and I can borrow his tools and kit to work on the car!...

If anyone has a storage or laid up policy and can recommend someone Id be really grateful.. its only for a few months (hopefully) but I refuse to pay out 2k for a month then downgrade, then switch to someone else when the cars back on the road

I used AON (advertise in PP) for my S2 while I am waiting for the insurance claim to sort itself out.

1500 mile policy for about £250, I belive it is 1500miles or 12 months, which ever comes sooner. AON may do a laid up policy aswell, its worth a try.

cheers, i will give them a try.. spoke to heritage and a couple of others listed in the insurance section of this site earlier and got bored of trying in the end; everyone said no laid up policies and weren't interested in a zero or very low mileage policy.. sounds like AON might be more use!

What sort of figure are you after Ben (apart from as less as possible)? I have a 5000 mile policy with Heritage for less than £500 which includes recovery and club trackdays.

ideally fire theft and accidental damage only (0 miles, so no third party) as the car isn't going to be on the road for a while.. This is what I had before and it was iro £100 for 12 months (obviously I only had the last 3 months of my existing policy converted so I got a refund on my fully comp policy payment and no admin charge for the change)
I would go with the same again, but I can't renew onto this policy, I have to take out a fully comp policy then downgrade after 1 month.. The renewal is so high its just a joke, and even if I went direct debit, I would end up shelling out an enormous amount for the first month (around 450 quid) which would disappear as its the first months payment, then I would have to pay another month which would then get partially refunded upto the value of 11 months of the laid-up policy.. That would make the total cost of the laid up policy around £500 which is about what I paid for a fully comp/unlimited mileage policy last year [&:]

insurance companies drive me mad...
