Dear All

Apologies for the blatant plug, but just a quick reminder that I've got the following parts for an S2 or early Turbo available which if they don't go shortly will be destined for the scrapyard:

Rear Axle inc ABS sensors and wiring
Torque tube
Standard S2 Gearbox
Fuel tank, pump wiring etc
Gearbox cross member
Front hubs inc ABS sensors and wiring, cross member, springs, shocks and top mounts
2 x doors in guards red inc wing mirrors
Front bumper inner alloy frame and chassis rail mounts
Badge panel

I'm planning to get rid of the shell and unwanted parts in the next 2 weeks.

If anyone can find use for these drop me a PM - I'm based in Cambs very close to the A1/A14 junction - could deliver or meet up for the larger parts.

Yours

Chris

You read my mind , the scrap yard !!! , surely if you keep a gearbox and two doors stashed away there will always be someone who will want them in the future ?

Regards
Mas

Hi,

Are any items left. I have space in my shed. It would be a shame for them to go for scrap. I may need them.........one day.

Regards

Jason

Gearbox and doors - as Mas said, hold on to them. Someone will want them sooner or later. And if you find no takers, I'll give you a tenner for them.

Also it's well worth keeping the front shocks. They are useful (even if knackered) for people doing the Koni shock-absorber installation, as a spare set of struts means you can pre-prepare items to bolt onto the car. Someone will want them sooner or later, and they are no hassle to store.

Cheers Oli that's my plan - keep hold of the front suspension, hubs, top mounts and track control arms.

it might make removing the car to the scrap yard difficult though...

Chris,

I see your problem. Although some scrappies will collect cars, and even if you don't have the front suspension it could be moved by semi-trailering it.

(Of course, that option goes out of the window if you also remove the rear suspension!)

I recently scrapped a 924 and the shell was taken away by the local scrap metal dealer on a skip wagon. They just lifted it off my driveway so it doesn't matter what state it was in so long as they can get access, and they paid me £110, which was nice. The price of scrap metal is £135 a ton at the moment.

Funny you mention that Oli, doing the Koni conversion is on my to do list for this winter. If you would be willing to post the front shocks Chris I'd be very happy to recompense you.

Eldavo,

'Tis an S2 being broken, and you have a Lux. Make sure the parts are the same (yours is a 2.7 lux - I know they differed from the 2.5 lux in many ways, otherwise I'd be sure they wouldn't fit.)

How much are you looking at for the Koni shocks? I was talking with Paul Smith at the weekend about this very topic, and they seem to have gone up in price quite steeply recently.

Oli.

Just a quick point here..... Unless I've missed something, the shocks on the S2 I'm scrapping are just the standard (maybe Koni's ?) bog-standard suspension, no the adjustable spring platform yellow Koni's if that's what people are thinking ?

Chris,

Koni do a replacement insert for S2's and Turbos which bolts inside the standard front shock (rear are completely seperate.) In order to fit it you need to cut the old front shock in half and drill a large hole in the bottom.

This is a faff, so if you need to do the job in a hurry (don't want to have the car off the road for too long) then it's easier to find yourself a knackered set of front struts, cut and drill them and insert the new Koni inserts so they are ready to fit to the car before starting the installation job. It makes things quicker and easier. You do of course have a spare set of (knackered) front shocks once you are done - the ones you removed from your car.

I 'borrowed' the front shocks from Paul Smith's S2 when I did my Koni conversion about 3 years ago, and ended up sending my old shocks off to someone else - can't remember who. I'm not sure where the 'spare' set went from there; for all I know, they are still doing the 'rounds ...

Oli.

With regards to S2 and lux shock differences, the lux uses a wider spring. So as long as you have the correct spring and top cap you can use either shock on a lux.

Cheers James. I'd be swapping the springs out for some lowering ones anyway but could use the top cap from my current shocks. Good to know the shock bodies themselves are the same though, Oli's post did throw me a bit.

Truth is I'm not in a hurry to swap the parts over when I get around to doing the conversion, just looking for ease of use. I'm going to get a mate to shot blast and powdercoat/paint the shock bodies themselves anyway so I'd just be able to prep everything in advance and hopefully avoid any hiccups along the way.

Just to clarify, I'm not a breakers nor seeking to make my fortune by breaking old Porsche 944's. On the other hand I'm not a charity, so yes I'm looking for appropriate contributions for the parts, oh and my time for pulling the bits off and packaging them up/ arranging collection and transport !

Not huge amounts just appropriate amounts [:D]
