Last dilema before taxing day

right guys just need a bit of advice.

My car is now nearly there after 18months of work. The BIG day is hopefully going to be May 1st when she gets taxed. CANNOT WAIT BY THE WAY - GIDDY AS HELL.

Anyway here is the dilema.

There are a number of faults still left to sort which may be inter linked.

The spoiler light is and the spoiler doesn't come up automatically but works manually, however i think this is because the speedo doesn't work which is possibly a wheel speed sensor (hopefully - and according to the big white book (enthusiasts companion) which has done well so far.)
Next the ABS and PDAS lights are on constantly - think relay r51 and r34 are ok. going to check soleniod valve relay and return pump motor relay tommorow. I am hoping the ABS/PDAS unit hasn't gone. COULD IT BE ANYTHING ELSE?

Well as the car hasn't been on the road for around 3 years I am going to get a major service done on it.
Strasse want around £560 and say they will also put the car on the computer to check the faults for this price.
However Statller in Attercliffe Sheffield want £411 for the service, but would charge £58 per hour for diagnostic work.

Swings and roundabouts if you ask me. Can anyone shed any light on my problems or have you used either Strasse or Statller and would recommend them.

Need to book it in over easter whilst off work in order to get reasy for May 1st.

All help is very much appreciated

Lee,

I don't think any of the problems you have could be considered "simple" so don't underestimate the work necessary to fix them.

The spoiler issue just HAS to be linked to the speedo. On the '92 cars the speedo is driven by a pulse generated by the R52 frequency converter (in the fuse box) which takes it's source input from the front left ABS sensor.

If the ABS and PDAS lights never go out it suggests an issue with the primary hydraulic pressure. Does the pump run?? Does it ever stop?? The lights would normally go out a few seconds before the pump is switched off by the pressure switch attached to the front of the pump.

Checking the computer for faults is no more than a 10 minute job. It's what you do when you examine the faults that count - and I'm sure both will charge for rectification. Just make sure they are both quoting for the same thing. Some indies will do a valve clearance adjustment for a big service, and some won't. Strasse have a good reputation but I've not heard of Statller but don't read too much into that because they are way outside of my area.

You'll be a couple of months too late to get the £190 road tax and you'll be hit with the new rate of £205 but I guess it's not so bad - certainly worth it to get it back on the road I bet!!!

Hope some of that helps.

Regards

Dave

I get a bit lost when it comes to the PDAS but I've often seen mentions that a dirty accelerometer can cause issues with the PDAS and ABS warning lights.

Sorry I cant help with the techy stuff Lee, but I can recommend Strasse to you. I purchased my car from them and their name has been soley on the service book for the last 2 other owners. Only Nots OPC and Strasse in fact. They really seem to know their "older" Porsches.

Hi guys - cheers for your reply.

From PCGB someone suggested I try Porscheuro in Barnsley.
Got it booked in with them for top service and diagnostic on tues 6th april - £500 all in. He seems to think it may all be linked.

Too technical for me to start trying to solve.

will keep you updated as to how it goes.

cheers again lee
