Last PCGB Trackday of 2012 !

...was today at Oulton Park today. The weather , which is a dominant feature at Oulton , was 'dry' .
This means it did not rain during the day . However there was a lot of rain yesterday and cloud cover all day today , so naturally a lot of 'damp' about. Only one serious 'off' that I know of.
Attendance was well short of what is needed to have a financially successful day , which meant that participants on an open pitlane day had a lot of open track , but probably it was another nail in the coffin for PCGB trackdays north of Silverstone.

So , what about the 964RS content ? The most track focussed Porsche 'road' car of the early 90's ?

Well...there was a 964 Targa and (I think) a 964 cab and a 964'RSR' flying the flag. The 'RSR' was lucky to get on at '105.5' db , and was having to short shift , unfortunately no pictures but it was white , Martini stripes, 3.8 engine on Webers , originally built for racing by Tech9.

However there were a few 3.2 Carreras having a go for the '80s , including a 'proper' Clubsport , and for the '70s a 'proper' 2.7RS . Of course there were 996 and 997s , GT3s and 924 and 944 and 968 and 993 and Turbos and Boxters...just no 964RS .

I rolled up in the 911E but did not fancy having a go , last time conditions were like this I exited Druids backwards (in a 964RS).

We did however have one of the few remaining 964RS trackdayees drop in , the admirable Ian Harvey , sadly Ian was not in his car.......lets hope that 2013 sees a bit more support of PCGB trackdays.

Very sorry to miss this John, just too much happening at the moment !!

At least most of it is Porsche orientated !!

Thanks for the write-up ... [;)]

Hi Chris/John

I agree, thanks for the write up.

PCGB days are very enjoyable but the middle of November is just to late for me. Unless you turn up on the day booking in advance is a gamble. It's a shame because Oulton Park is one of the best and most challenging UK circuits.

....the first time he started it up, is sounded very nice but we politely informed him that it could be a short afternoon! [:D]

Yes guys , quite agree it was too late in the year for an Oulton trackday to be sensible . There was one car dragged away that I saw after an incident , it was a race car however [:D]

For anyone out there interested in doing Porsche biased trackdays , Steve Brookes has started a UK trackdays thread on the 964 forum of rennlist , there is an active 964 trackday collective that has a bit of bargaining power with ATDOs [;)].

Speaking of which....next year's 964 Spa Francorchamps March trip is now open for bookings. See Rennlist 964 forum thread for more details [;)]
