Late gearbox into early car?

Hi, I'm new here, having recently bought my first 944 by accident- I had no plans to buy one, but one day went to look at one in the trader and ended up buying it....[:D] Anyway, as tends to be the way with all my cars, its broken- the gearbox expired the day after i bought it......[]

I bought and fitted a gearbox from my local porsche breaker, which turned out to be shot, so, out it came again- great!
He then said that he's got a box in a 1988 924S- I realise that the 924S and 944 have the same running gear, but I thought that the Gearboxes changed in '85 or '86- my car is an early dash '85 model...

Can anyone confirm that this later 'box will or won't fit in my car, cheers!

You might be in luck: the PET give the replacement transmission part number for a -85 944 and 924S as 016 300 045 C or E. The first of the 86- 944s is 016 300 049 S.
But check for yourself in the parts catlogs for 944 -85 and 924S:

Later 944 NA have one gearbox mount against two for the early ones, but they should be swappable as the gearbox casing is the same.
