Late Summer Meet ?

As the main annual club get together is being "combined" with the Silverstone Classic meet this year (note to the "Powers that be" this is NOT a criticism or a snipe [8|][;)]) the later part of the summer through August/Sepember is a tad event free at present as far as I am aware.

So was wondering if there is an appetite for some sort of gathering or run to fill the void and if anyone had any thoughts on what it could be or be centred around ? Maybe something akin to the Goodwood/South Coast run but elsewhere - perhaps even *gasp* oop north ?

I would be well up for something like that. I'm away for the Silverstone Classic meet and the Goodwood/South coast runs are quite some way from Lincolnshire! How's about a run through the dales? Stopping at a few pubs (for softies obviously!) and a few viewpoints to get the cameras out at? A sunday would be best for me, and after August 12th some time?

We were only talking about that on Sunday! [:)]

I've every hope to organise something between Silverstone and the Christmas Titanic event at Reading. Never easy with a Register as the cars are so spread out, but please let's get some ideas and I'll see what we can do.

Sounds good to me (assuming I have my car back by then [8|]). There's also the Tipec meet on August the 3rd at Gaydon which could be a good place for a get together.

If this comes off it will have to be at least the midlands, and I'd prefer even further north than that. We are woefully under-represented outside the south, with valid reason as that's where the bulk of the members are, but we are always put to shame by the willingness of the northern owners to make a weekend of a one-day event in the south. So, venues with good accomodation nearby, we southerners do require a proper hotel with individual butlers and valet parking. [;)]

Sounds like a great idea but pleasing everyone is going to be hard ![&:] I have always wanted to have a burn up around wales or north wales as i have been told there are some great roads with lots to see...[:)]

Off the top of my head I would suggest the Peak District. I lived up there for around five years and there are some great driving roads as well as the stunning scenery up there. Plus if a weekend rather than single day were the preferred option there are plenty of places to stay roundabout either in the Peaks or one of the nearby towns.

Its also relatively central compared with some other alternatives and is not a huge area so it would I think be possible to manage a good circuitous route taking in various sights etc. without driving excessive mileage.

Just my initial thought. [:)]

I'd be up for this. Don't really mind where it is but may draw the line at the south coast. North wales has some great roads and stunning views, also like the sound of the Peak District. We're pretty spoilt for nice roads around here.

Count me in too[:D] The Peak district is beautiful and their are some great roads with fine scenery for some pics. Not too far from the Midlands either, so ideal for those posh Southerners and their valets...[8|][:D]

North Wales is superb with some great roads around Langollen and the A5 route plus the Evo 'triangle' is not too far away and those are equally great driving roads.

Loch Lomond is lovely.........so is the Lake District if you are allergic to Scottish things, not as good driving roads though............come up, make a weekend of it!

The Peaks sounds spot on.

Having done Scotland a few times I will say the roads are some of the best on the planet but it is a very long haul for us Southerners. If it were a weekend we would no sooner get there then have to turn around and come home again.

I vote we go with Jon and "Porsches in the Peaks"

I'd be up for a Peak District run, in fact it'd fit in very nicely before my proposed trip to Oktoberfest and then on to Croatia so my S2 can prove its worth!

Now that is a proper road trip...[:D]

Love the roads of North (and mid) Wales but better outside of the summer season especially in the North, Happy to experience what the peaks have to offer though if the dates dont clash with with work,
Tony

No doubt most locations whether it be Peaks, Mountains or Dales will suffer from a fair bit of traffic in High summer. Whichever location we alight on what would be the preferable calender slot ?

August would have maximum traffic plus of course many folks holidays (would be two weekends I couldnt make then). Perhaps the first part of September which may offer quieter roads and hopefully still decent weather?

Peaks, North Yorks, Northumberland (quiet roads) anywhere up there would be nice. Autumn colours are wonderful for the scenery and there are some great driving roads. Anytime except October 12th (NU classic) or Sept21st.
Great idea.

I have no doubt The Fearnmeister woud be able to help us out with routes if, indeed, he wasn't available. As a man who spends virtualy every spare minute driving for fun I am confident he and his colleagues in the HPC will have all the best roads sorted. He has provided us with some fabulous routes in past years.

Early September is OK for me but Small, and others will be going back to school or starting new schools.
