Later 996's and RMS?

Whilst enquiring about the extended warranty at Chiswick OPC. I was told that 'later' 996's do not suffer from the dreaded RMS failure as 'Porsche sorted this early problem out on later cars' (i.e facelifted cars).
Does anyone know whether there is an once of truth in this?

What a load of b*llocks!

See my earlier RMS post and my car is an '03 facelift with 35,000 miles on it.
 
They are all susceptible, although later cars less so.

Apparently, there is a new design of replacement seal and a new tool for fitting it, that reduces the likelihood of secondary failures.

RMS itself isn't a major problem, more of a nuisance, and many people don't bother to replace it. If you maintain the extended warranty this will cover it.

I have a 2002 4S which needed a replacement rear main oil seal at 8500 miles and 2 new radiators at 9000 miles.

Bollox mate.

Coincidentally, I was in the OPC today as well discussing a 996TT , and the dealer advised that the Turbo I was interested in, was in the workshop, having an...........RMS replaced.

They all suffer, .............well apart from the silver facelift ones, with Aerokits, which are for sale[;)]

 
I've never heard of a Turbo,GT3 or GT2 suffering from an RMS failure......their engines are based on the GT1 block, unlike the regular 986/987/996/997s [8|]
 
There is a Turbo owner who posts on this forum who has had the RMS replaced.

It does happen (as with any car) just not as often as the non-GT1-block based Boxster/996.

Unfortunately not true. Lower numbers of TTs, GT3 and GT2 in circulation just means you hear about RMS in them less, but they do suffer from RMS as well.

Talking to service manager from my OPC, they are well in to double figures for RMS repairs on 997s and 987s already.

The difference being that with GT1-block based cars it tends to be a manufacturing defect (i.e. poorly installed seal) which causes this and in most cases once replaced never re-occurs - unlike M96/97 block cars where it is most definitely a design flaw.
