Has anyone fitted the inertia type rear seat belts in an early car (1986) ? is it easy to do?

Simon started to tell me how to do it, but we got cut off and I forgot to ask him again, so hopefully someone one here could help?

we have 1 5 year old who sits in her seat no problems, but we have one on the way so id like to be able to take everyone out in the car safely.

TIA James [:)]

Is it an oval dash car?
If so there are mounting plates in the boot near the filler pipe for them.
If its a square dash you would need to bolt in suitable ones.
What belts are there at the moment?
There are standard top pillar mounts and 2 lower mounts in the shell.
I have also seen the inertia reel units attached directly to the top pillar mounts.

Hi Mike

Thanks for the reply, yes its an oval dash car, at the minute there is only one lap belt, on the near side.

Which isnt ideal however I have a suitable car seat in the back that allows this, however for safety id prefer 3 point inertia belts.

James :)

All cars have provision for static or inertia lap belts and for static three point belts. In order to fit three point inertia belts your car has to have a bracket welded onto the body in the rear wheel arch area.

From memory it was only fitted to 1987 model year onwards cars. As you know, I spent years not thinking about these cars, so I could be mistaken: youd be better off calling PH as even though he isnt interested any more, he still remembers. If you do need the brackets then he will be able to sort you out if he still has a late bodyshell.
