Latest Battery Thoughts ...

My Bosch Series 5 Silver Plus (77Ah) has at last given up after 15 years, and casting my eye over "recent" posts on the forum for latest advice, the posts all appear to be 4+ years old.

I'll probably look to replace with the same given I have had no problems, but wondered if anyone had any thoughts on other replacements given things will have moved on in the last 15 years.

Many thanks,

Shane.

My preference is Bosch series 6, and they are getting harder to obtain. I'm using Bosch Silver series 5 in our 993 and 986 and find the series 5 lasts over 6 years if you use a trickle charger and infrequently use your car.

Lack of use, with corresponding discharging dramatically shortens battery life and experienced several brands that die early (even with trickle charging) when the car is used infrequently. I've been most disappointed with Varta and the last one did not even last 2 years!

If you're near a Costco I strongly recommend them for Batteries, they do Bosch batteries with a real no quibble guarantee. They also do Michelin tyres.

Hope this helps, Marc

Bosch S6 are AGM so not as easy to charge / maintain as a standard version

Varta and Bosch are the exact same products, just a different sticker!

Many thanks both for your replies. .... AGM? re the Series 6?

Current gut feel is I'll stay with the Series 5 and check the price difference between the Bosch and the Varta if they are [supposed] to be the same products - however, given what you said Marc, I'll probably stick with the one that says Bosch!
