Le Mans 2008

I've posted this before, but thought I'd ask again[:D]

I'm off to Le Mans early on the 12th June in my 944T along with a 964, a Harley ( midlife crisis![;)]) and a whopping great Merc 4x4.

Anyone going or still deliberating?

Not this year, going to the classic in July for the first time. I am however already missing the June event already.

Giving it a miss this year purely because of the food. Last year I got food poisoning from a dodgy croque monsieur on the way down and then got really fed up with the lack of food choices at the circuit. There just seem to be the same four catering vans, and they just reapeat all the way round the viewing areas, like a really bad cartoon background.[;)] And what are those "churros" things anyway?

In the end I headed out to a nice pizzeria in Beaumont sur Sarthe where I saw the highlight of the trip, a RHD 993 GT2, which must be one of only about 9 made. Looked amazing.

It's a shame as the S2 will be far nicer to travel down in than the leaky, noisy and hot S1 Elise I went in last year.

Hope you enjoy it though.

Last time I went, I had just sold my 964 3 months previously, so this will be my first run down in something 'interesting'.

Yes I'll be there with the rest of the 'Sludgepumpers' doing missionary work for south yorkshire. Usually go down in 'sevens' but this year doing it in style, the 944s, a ford galaxy support vehicle and a couple of others. After last years deluge we're taking no chances. Huge walk in tent plus large gazebo complete with fridge etc.. We are going on the overnight ferry on wednesday (long beery night) and staying on Tertre Rouge campsite. Keep an eye out, the cars will be stickered up with 'Sludgepumpers on tour'.

Chris, where did you order your stickers from? I did have a web address for a company making them.

Thanks

We get them done locally but these guys are well recommended.

I am jealous, it's been three years since my last Le Mans trip. 1 litre of oil per 3000 miles is nothing to be sneezed at, in fact it's positively great compared to some cars.

I couldn't see the pictures [:(]

OK, now you should be able to see the pics - they're big enough....[8|][:D]

A few more...

Agreed, it knocks my oil consumption into a cocked hat.

I WILL make it to Le Mans one year soon ... Le Mans Classic in 2010, for sure, but maybe the main event too ...

Oli.

Great pics, makes me wish I went. The coverage on the 'tinternet was cracking this year thankfully, and I watched as much of it as possible which was a pretty good substitute.

Thankfully it sounds like the organisers of Le Mans are going to do something to level the playing field next year, so the boring hum of the diesel engined cars have some real competition, which would make me even keener to go and spectate.

I really fancy going to the Nurburgring 24 or the Le Mans Classic next year too, so must get a bit better organised.

Nick - some great shots of the on-track action there, whereabouts on the circuit were you to get them?
