Le Mans 2014?

Anyone thinking about this for 2014?

I was there this year, booked through Lycian Events. Stayed on a private campsite right on the Porsche Curves.
The R2 club also used this campsite and many people down there have re booked already in anticipation of Porsches return to LMP1.
Anyone interested in doing this would be as well getting their name down quick as the site is limited to 300 folk.
I believe R2 are travelling down in convoy on the Thursday before the race. It's my intention to drive to the Tunnel on the Wednesday have an overnight stop and hook up with them on Thursday.
A few other folk from R8 are doing the same. Be good to get a few of us up here involved too.

Regards Billy

I am in the process of organising R1's (or anyone else that wants to come) trip to Lemans 2014. - we did the classic three years ago and it was excellent, but I haven't done the 24hr since 2004.

Initial thoughts are depart Newcastle/Hull on the Tue, spend a night near Reims Wed, arrive lemans thu pm, Parade Fri, and departing Lemans on the Monday,

wont be camping though, it can piss down there for a full weekend, so will be chateau somewhere,

If your on my members email distribution list you will get the details, if not drop me an email and I will add you to the list,

Was hoping to get this all booked up by end of august as its always very popular.

I have about a dozen wanting to go already

regards
Scott.

There is camping and camping, rain does not present a problem if the facilities are good, camping only 50m from the track is the only way to experience Le Mans ( OK I am biased )

This year we have "Glamping" available, camping is not what it used to be.

Le Mans is all about camping and being there for the build up, the entire race and not commuting daily to a remote part of France that reputes to be local to the circuit and frankly isn't.

There are camping options that would put some hotels to shame for those who'd rather not remember their school days staying in a leaky tent in a wet cow pat and midge infested field (There is even real food served on real plates and hot showers too).

Oh and our girls do camping so no excuses here.

So if you 'Hard' Northern types want to join us Southern 'Softies' camping why not join us for the real Le Mans experience. (Yes it rains, but it rains all the time in Scotland doesn't it [:)] )

Hi Billy - yes, I'm thinking about it. Went with Lycian in 2012 and would use them again because (while I totally understand what Scott says about the rain!) I think the atmosphere camping on the curves, being able to watch late into the night and just drop back to the tent for a nap, being able to forget about the car for the whole event etc makes the camping essential for me.

Would you drive to the tunnel or use the Newcastle ferry?

Was thinking of going to the classic in 2014 but with return of Porsche to LMP1 it's got to be the 24h

Hello Mark,
Have a red face tonight....my 1st post mentions the R2 club camping at the Curves, it should of course read the R20.
Having looked at the distances involved in driving to the Tunnel or driving south from Ijmuiden after coming off the ferry there isn't really a lot in it. Calais to Le Mans 270ml Ijmuiden to Le Mans 430ml. What you save doing it one way you lose on the other.
I've done it both ways and prefer the Tunnel.
Plan A is drive to Folkstone on Wednesday, have an over nightstop near the Tunnel then head through with the R20 guys Thursday morning aiming to get to Le Mans mid afternoon arriving in plenty of time for a wee refreshment and watch the final night qualifying.

Nick, I am with you on the camping, but, coming from Scotland we have a 1000 mile drive to get home. I can understand some folk up here wanting a decent bed to sleep in,the drive back after the weekends excesses is very tiring.

Email today from Lycian

Good Afternoon

As you may be aware from our Facebook page and press coverage the return of Porsche and Mark Webbers return to sports car racing has excited the fans enormously.

Since our return from Le Mans this year we have been overwhelmed with registrations to stay on the Village On the Curves and we have been filling spaces rapidly, it was our intention to not take deposits until October when we finalised our prices with the ACO, unfortunately along with all the other operators we need to ensure that our clients have confirmed bookings so that we can expand the site if required.

We have therefore made the decision that we will start to take deposits of £85 per person as soon as possible and I will start the process of contacting you over the next few days. I will also be asking you to confirm Grandstand Seats as the premier ones are under pressure and we need to ensure that we are able to satisfy everyone's needs.

If you need to add additional pitches or persons to your party this will not be a problem and we will still ensure that they are pitched with your group.

Can I thank you for your support and your cooperation in this matter which is I believe going to be a fantastic year for sports car racing.

If you need to discuss either the booking process or anything at all to do with Le mans then please do not hesitate to contact me. either by phone or email.

Kind Regards

Joy
