Le Mans Anyone?

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Any PCGB 964's going to Le Mans this year? We're taking a couple down on the early Thursday Eurotunnel.

Would also like to pop in to the club site at Porsche Curves and say "Hi". We're already booked into next door at Beausejour (most people in the group not being PCGB) and always walk past for a quick gander.

You going to be there Dave?

I'm afraid I've never been a great follower of the Le Mans experience - I think because camping has never been my "thing" since my early experiences with the Boy Scouts!! My Wife's expectation of a weekend in France is more 5-star hotel in Paris rather than 2-man bivouac in the countryside!!!

I know lots of 964 owners make a habit of going most years but I don't know of any specific plans this year. Kevin Senior is one of the die hards and I know Alex Drobik, recently decamped to the GT3 Register, is a great fan. Perhaps others may post here.

Regards

Dave

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Thanks Dave, There's nothing quite like sharing a huge campsite with a massive contingent of drunken loud Danes.. the wife will love it!

Oh well, I'll still pop my head into the Porsche camp for a nose around..

Regrets - unlikely this year due to work pressure. A shame - there is nothing like a le mans camping experience - and yes in part to realise how fantastic a real house is!

I shall be attending for my 5th year, hoping for some decent weather this year!

We shall be travelling early Thursday too (my co-driver took his 3.2 last year), in a small convoy (only 2 at the moment I think) so you would be welcome to join us for the drive down.

A group of 3 of us have, hopefully, reserved an enclave on the site, my 964, a 993 and a 996TT

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]Hi Colin, hopefully we'll be two 964 C4's and also two Beamers.. We arrive Calais on Eurotunnel at 08:55. If that's yours too we'll look out for you (I've no doubt we'll have a couple of door numbers/decals on ours by then!).

We're straight down to Rouen then the old route to Le Mans (part parallel to the new A28) stopping for lunch on the way. What site you at?

Cheers..

...also two Beamers...

Hmmm

Not so much the cars its the people who drive them [] ....may be we can hide them at the back?

To be honest, I cannot remember what time the Eurotunnel leaves, it may be around 9.30am although there is always a bit of leeway either side.

I'll update you when I find out.

Problem with Le Mans this year is I'm really looking forward to going, but I am so busy with various projects that I haven't got time to get ready properly.

I will be arriving mid morning Friday in my 997 gen 2 C4S. We are travelling from North Wales to Portsmouth on Thursday and taking overnight to St Malo.
We are camping in the Team Langoustine site at Tetre Rouge.

I'm pretending they're not there Colin [;)].. A little secret (I think); on the old route between Rouen and Le Mans we usually stop off at Gace for lunch. Nice village with bars and food and a typical Brit contingent of Aston's, Lambo's and interesting 911's..

I think we'll be a couple of hours in front. If I don't see you on the way down, I'll look out for you when there. We're two C4's; one black the other granite grey too! btw - what's the difference between the granite grey and the slate grey..?

Ah...that's because I found out my car isn't actually granite grey, it's a different grey & I did not get round to changing my profile yet [8|]

There you go then.. that'll explain it! You're thumbnail looks very similar to the colour on the C4 I'm hoping to pick up this weekend - hence the question.

btw - I'm trying to find out if Porsche touch up paint in aerosol cans are available. Need to spray up a new headlight bezels.. Know if there is such a thing?

Thanks

I am going to Le Mans this year for the first time, cant wait ! Been wanting to go for last 4 years.

I am not heading down until friday morning though. Will see you all there !

Been going for many years and it's become an essential annual trip for a whole bunch of friends too. The journey down after Rouen taking a non-autoroute is always great..

Also worth getting up with a hangover for is the Saturday morning Le Mans Classics race of a couple of hours - usually around 10:00 if I remember correctly.. This year is 1949-1964 I beleive.

Hi Nick - this has now been done for you. Where did you send the email to it clearly has not got through.

Regards.

My 8th Le Mans, but only the 2nd in C2 TGA (1993 black C2 Targa with full green leather interior). Have taken my 12 year old son for the last 5 years, and his 6 year old brother is coming for the first time this year. I should be easy to spot as the only stressed out 964 owner in desperate need of a few beers.

I'm travelling with a Beemer M5 owner and his 2 sons on the overnight ferry crossing from Newhaven on Friday night, returning via Eurostar on Sunday about 7pm.

Please say hello if you see us. I usually see other Brits in 964's, but never know who is a club member. Hope to make it to Blenheim Palace too.

Cheers,

Paulf

Excellent Paul. Great the boys are going too. I hope 5 years or so my two girls will get into it!

I'll keep an eye out for you guys for a hello. The Porsche camp enclosure at Porsche Curves is usually interesting after walking past many years. Two of us (both PCGB), two C4's (one black, one slate grey) and numbered up (00 and 10 or 01!) Down Thursday back Monday eve.

Weather there: http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/europe_forecast_7days.asp?locationID=1758

btw - your six year old; in a seat booster or something else? (Need to get something that fits for my little ones)

Marcus,

Taking the boys has added an extra dimension to an already brilliant weekend. Taking my tired son to Arnage, as it's getting dark, for the first time and seeing him gripped by the magic I felt the first time I went there is special. Get in touch when you're taking the girls. As you can imagine, we've been through quite a few 'experiences' with the kids over the years and I'll try to help if you (or more likely, mum) have any concerns. We try to alter our travel / accommodation arrangements each year, to keep it fresh and to make it a new adventure each time we go.

Courtesy of my brother's involvement with a hospitality and ticketing business that sponsors one of the teams, we're hoping to sneak into one of the pit garages for a short while at some stage. I say to my eldest that he's already done and seen things at Le Mans many grown-up fans only dream of doing, but he's too young to appreciate it.

I saw your post about child seats. I used a Britax Romer Prince seat for a while, but you have to fit an extended seat belt in the back of a 964 for them to work properly. If you're looking on Fleabay, be aware that Britax Romer made what I think is the same seat for many other manufacturers apart for Porsche (Merc, BMW, Peugeot, to name a few). For the last two years, I've used our Britax booster seat. It's not a perfect fit, but it's snug enough for us to feel that the seat belt is restraining him properly, and for his comfort. We've had it since the eldest was a toddler, and I can't find any model name or number on it!

Porsche Curves is usually one spot we drop in to for a while on Sunday morning, so I'll keep an eye out for you. The booster seat will be in the car in case you want to check it out. We've seen the campsite, but I've never dared attempt to wander in. The kids are always amused by that nearby forest of tiny tents for the Danish campers!!! Quite a contrast in comfort levels.

Have a fantastic weekend.

Paul
