I'm driving down to see the Le Mans Classic this summer. I'm booked on an early morning Eurotunnel train on Friday, 7th July before the racing starts on Saturday. I've organised camping through the Porsche Club France and a couple of laps of the circuit in my car which should be a fantastic experience - even if it is in convoy!

You can find out more information at http://www.lemansclassic.com/uk/index.html

Is anyone else thinking of going? Let me know if you are.

A great event! I've been to both the previous ones.

There is also lots of information about going with the club here:

(In case anyone has not spotted it)

Have a great time -I am so jealous -had a fantastic weekend there two years ago -if it hadn't been brought forward three weeks we'd be going too as a starter to summer hols.....doh![]

Just have to make do with the Oldtimer GP at the 'ring in August.......[;)]

I,m going down on the Thursday and returning on the Monday. Last time there was only one other 964rs from the UK and about 30 from the rest of Europe. The "2laps," if what happened last time is anything to go by, you will not be dissappointed. You could really stretch the car, and cars quickly spread out.

Have a good trip down. I'll look out for the other UK 964rs - yours looks black too! Were the other drivers not too mad on the "2 laps" last year?

Any advice on where the gendarmes might be waiting with their speed traps on the way down?

Regards
Tim

Tim, There were a few crazys, but the track is so wide and the cars soon spread out. Mine is Midnight Blue.
Did not see any speed cameras and hardly any police.

Jeff, midnight blue would be my colour of choice, but I saw none for sale whilst I was looking. Let's hope the police are busy elsewhere this year too.

Love the pictures James, are the in-car shots taken by your passenger, or did you have something else rigged up? I was hoping to take a mounted video camera round. I presume you took a crash helmet, are you required to wear one?

No helmets required, no track briefing.... in fact no thought given to safety at all !! But it was huge fun & they did stagger the release of the cars onto the track. With such a huge track congestion was not a problem [:D]

Hi Tim, there were some guys from the UK taking photos they took about six of mine on the "parade" laps, including one passing under the Dunlop bridge. I have attempted to download one.

Sounds pretty hairy, but I can hardly wait!

Jeff, great action shot! And as James says no crash helmets required.

If anyone is camping in Maison Blanche & likes early Porsches, pop along to DDK / PCGB camping area. You won't be able to miss us all, just look for over 30 pre-'73 porsches [:D] .

My small group (964RS & 993 Carrera 2) has a couple of tent spaces booked at Maison Blanche too and we'd definitely like to come and admire some of the early models. I've also reserved some club parking through the PCF, although I'm thinking the camping space option may be the better one. Any views?

I received an email confirmation this morning from the organisers saying that they had received my application form, all was okay and that I would receive written details in June.

In 2004 We left our cars in teh campsite for the full event & only used the designated parking area when it was the morning of the parade laps.

We are maison Blanche from Thursday afternoon. Come & pitch alongside us all if you want to camp with some fellow porsche fanatics [:D]
