Le Mans Classic

Hi,

My father and I are considering going to the Le Mans Classic event next year, he would be driving his Mk2 Jag and I the 944 along with my mum and partner. Just wondering if the club organises its own trip to the event or if any one from here has been before and what do they think of it?

Any help is appreciated.

Edd

Not sure about a PCGB trip but I've booked through Travel Destinations. Seems reasonable value - about #270 inc ferry, campsite, tickets etc. Lots of 944's going with Tipec on this deal.

I don't think there's an organised trip to the Classic, I think some regions organise groups. The regular Le Mans has a fantastic Club package, way better than other options.

I went in 06 and had a great time - make sure you buy a paddock pass as well - you can get right in & amongst all the cars during practice [:D] The night racing is spectacular - and during the night /early morning you can get into almost any grandstand, not just the one you have a ticket for

Good thread ... I'm planning to go as well, with my father, and that reminds me that I must chase him up about the tickets! (Sadly I think the plan is to go in his MX5, not the 944, otherwise I'd be certainly up for a convoy trip.) Oli.

I doing the trip with some friends (2 x TVR 2x Porsche (944 and 996) and a Merc). We plan to drive down to the Millau bridge and then back up Le Mans for the Classic. If anyone is interested in joining us Ill post the details on here closer to the time.

Take a couple of tow ropes. At least having the three tow cars will give you each a break, on a one-in-three basis. Best of luck. Oli.

Yes I am aware of travel destinations and am planning to book through them. Currently looking at off track campsites to stay. Perhaps if a few are going from here we should try and stay at the same campsite or meet up for the race soemwhere. Edd

Jason, Make sure that if you go down to the Millau Viaduct come off the autoroute and go through the town of Millau, head for the little village of Peyre on the road to Compregnac. The viaduct is far more impressive when you go underneath it. Cheers,

Yes: you pick the direction and the TVR decides how far.....

I did LeMans this year, and to be honest it was great fun. Definately tempted to do it again, and possibly in the 944. As said the night racing is sublime.

le mans via millau is a very long way round of getting there! but best of luck. would love to do classic le mans if there is a group going (but dont think i have time for the "long way round")

I'd recommend camping as close as possible - the crowds are nothing like the 24hr, so it's much more practical. We stayed on-track at Maison Blanche - really handy for the circuit - it's literally at the back of the field, and a campsite full of great cars. Even the showers were warm!

Hi Edd. Went to 2008 with SWMBO and had a fabulous time. Went with Grangstand Motorsports and made a mini holiday with a couple of days in the Loire valley before and same after in Cherbourg Peninsular. This time going Thurs Tunnel returning Mon. This was a hotel package but im sure they will tailor to suit - We had infield parking inside Bugatti circuit with full race and paddock passes and grandstand seating- not numbered so you could go where you liked. Also had a couple of track laps- great fun. Look at their site- i compared with T.D. and it was cheaper for a similar package. Cant wait for July. Cheers Ron

Going with TD as well. We'll be with the TIPEC group I think around 20+ going from various regions.

ORIGINAL: 944 LIL Oli - Shame... you need to take the 944 [;)]
Colin, Quite right. Snag is that it was going to be my dad's show, with friends of his, and I was co-driving. But it's looking like the party will be quite small, and I may yet push to pilot the pork along ... Millau Bridge looks fantastic, and some piccies of the 944 on it would be superb! Oli.

The reason for camping off site was to keep my mother happy as I'm not sure she could tolerate the 24hr noise and the sardine can campsite on track, I guess camping off track isnt going to have quite the same atmosphere and will mean driving to the circuit every morning. The upside is that we can have a base to get away from it all with more space and less stress. My Mother doesnt mind going to these events bless her but some compromises need to be made to keep her sweet! ...or I guess we could just leave her at home[:D] Edd

Take earplugs - they help a bit. The noise stops between 2 and 6 IIRC as they don't race all through the night. It was quite surreal to wake up to the roar of V8's running at full chat 50 yards away.
