Le Mans/headlight change

As I am going to Le Mans I am wondering whether its worth it changing over the lights from RHD to LHD. It seems quite a palaver to do and I dont expect to be driving at night. Is it easier than it looks in the manual for a 987?

Hi Andrew,

I didn't do it when I went to Le Mans as it was daylight all the time I was driving there.

I am assuming it is the same method as on the 986 like mine.
It is quite easy to do it if you have done it before! I bought a socket as the box spanner that came in the tool kit was too soft and started to "overhaul the hex head on the fitting. Apart from that do ensure you turn the wrench in the correct direction when releasing the light unit.

This has been discussed at length earlier this year. see LINK

Have a good time.

On the 987 it doesn't matter whether you have the std halogens or xenons - its the same procedure - its about 12 minutes to pop each one out, remove the cover , swap the lever over, replace the cover and refit. Hardly convenient in the channel port and much amusemnent to other travellers, and don't drop the headlight unit [:-]

You'll need a smallish cross head screw driver to remove the four screw securing each rear cover too - the one in the toolkit will do but its a bit fat really.

Isn't the standard thing to get some pieces of black sticky plastic and mask areas of the lens?

you can't do this on the projector style lens of the later 996s, 997s and 987s

Pocedure is the same whether for halogens or xenon
