I'm a Le Mans first timer.
I have over-lapping commitments in Paris which may impact when I get to LM and will mean I need to leave on the Sunday morning before the end of the race. I don't plan to camp, just all night it.
Question: what is the level of traffic getting to the circuit on the Saturday morning (early)? I'm expecting obviously heavy but is it likely to be near gridlock? If that is the case I have it in mind maybe to arrive by train...
Any pointers gratefully received
(I'm assuming if I do go by car coming away mid-morning Sunday won't be bad)
Thank you

Oh boy, are you in for a treat.

I've been to Le Mans half a dozen times on and off. Although I've camped I've made trips to the Carrefour nearby and traffic whilst heavy hasn't been awful. I've also gone away from the main part of the circuit to watch the racing from Arnage etc. Traffic during the race is fine

The other alternative would be to use the tram. Park near a tram station. I see there is a stop at the Carrefour. I don't know if the parking there is restricted

Hi

Great choice to visit Le Mans, utterly brilliant, even the bad bits!

Traffic very heavy from early, 8-9 on Saturday and parking a challenge unless you have booked a car park in advance.

I would recommend parking in town and using the tram to and from the circuit, I believe that the underground car parks are fully CCTV covered and safe although I have only used them for a few hours, not overnight.

Getting away on Sunday am not a big issue, particularly if you have parked in town.

I hope you enjoy it.

really helpful guys-thanks
(I didn't know about the trams!)
(I may be struggling with the 'helpful' click feature)

From what I recall, the traffic & sign posting is abysmal. Although we didn't arrive Saturday morning.
Based on traffic before/after the race I would say you will be fine. The worst is always getting out of LeMans. Once you are on the motorway it is not too bad.
