leak that fills my roof lining

Hi guys and gals,

Wonder if anyone can shed some light on a small leaking problem I am experiencing on my 964 coupe.

Sadly the roof lining along the rear edge of my sunroof has come away and is one of the jobs I need to undertake. However, the other day I went to drive away from my house and approximately 5 litres of water poured out the lining and over my girlfriend and my head. At the time we could not stop laughing as we were both on our way out for the evening, dressed to the nines and dripping wet with ice cold Highland rain water.

Anyhoo, if anyone has any ideas I would be most grateful for feedback.

Cheers

Cameron

Can we swap girlfriends because mine would really not be very happy if this was my car. [&:][:D]

...no, thought not. [&o]

Anyway, back to your problem... I believe there are drainage channels/holes within the sunroof seal area which you need to check. I don't know their exact position as my car doesn't have a sunroof - but you need to unblock them with either compressed air, or a long thin bendy thing like a thin plastic tube or soft wire. They get filled with leaf debris and prevent rainwater draining through - which ends up leaking into the car.

I'm sure someone will be along soon who knows which drainage holes to check.

Cameron,

It sounds like your sunroof drain holes are blocked!!! There are two at the front which drain down the A pillar and two at the back which drain down the C pillar. The front ones come out underneath the car, the rears just above the engine under the cover.

Some strong wire carefully prodded up the tubes should sort it.

I don't envy you the drenching!!! My wife would be inconsoleable and I'd be paying for it for a month!!!!

Regards

Dave

Dave - is the 993 the same? I had only found the rear drain holes and had resolved to only park with car level or facing up hill in the wet because downhill fills the roof up with water.

When you say "underneath the car" I guess you mean at bottom of A pillar - where relative to the sill?

Thanks
Mark

Mark,

TBH I can't give you any more information - I've not been there myself! Logically the drain would have to come out directly under the A pillar. I suspect it's likely to be fairly obvious once you get under there. It's going to need the car on a lift though.

Open the door, and at the wing top you should see a pipe each side protruding from the inner wing. These are the sunroof drain holes. It's worth noting that the felt will cost about 30£ or so to replace, but isn't an easy job to do, trust me......& to boot isn't really designed to be 100% waterproof....go figure.

Kevin...

I would bottle that Highland water.

Filtered through a Porsche 964.

Just needs a catchy name now.......
