leaking fluid

Just moved my car out of the garage today following a short run at the weekend (25 miles) and noticed a fairly sizable fluid spill at the rear slightly to the right of centre when viewed from the rear. Its an oily consistency very slight pink tint, is this pentosin power steering fluid?

Can't see an obvious leak at the moment but have noticed a slight rattle when driving though this sounded like the rear seat rattling on its catch, it wasn,t and again can't find the source of this at the moment. I suspect the 2 are unconnected.

Any help much appreciated

Ash

Could be either tranny, steering or coolant as all can be pink.

Richard may know what runs closest on that side. I'd jack her up and find out what is damp.

I take it you've checked all the levels?

P.S is it a tip?

Pentosin is a yellow-ish colour, so I don't think it will be power steering/clutch fluid.

Pink-ish makes me think it might be the later type coolant, which feels slightly oily to the touch, but not as oily as engine or transmission fluid, if you see what I mean. Does it feel like the thickness of water or oil?

Manual car. Not as thick as mobil 1 but not watery. It dropped onto a black tiled garage floor but I mopped it up with White paper towels. You could see a vey faint pink tint. When rubbed between finger and thumb definitely oily similar consistency to when I've had an aircon rad leak. Need to check levels tomorrow and if all seems ok a quick trip to OPC

I reckon your on the right track and its coolant as it sometimes feels a bit greasy.

+ all the cold nights we been getting aint no good for expansion tank, hot then cold etc.

And have you got an 04 cap on your tank?.

all's well.......

The drain plugs were leaking as diagnosed by Mike from Sports and Classic on pistonheads, £7 for parts and PC Newcastle looked after me on fitting too, for a minute I thought that was going to be expensive[;)]

there are 2 Richard about in line with the edges of the registration plate but underneath the car. They look vey similar to the bleed nipples on a domestic radiator you'd have in the house. They've got aluminium washers that over time start to leak.

Will try and post a photo later

yes sorry was coolant, what fooled me was how oily it was.

wasn't expensive after I negotiated on labour[;)]

exactly how it feels, last time I had a coolant leak was on an old BMC mini, that time it was greenish water not like modern coolant
