Leaking rear shock absorber

Chaps,

My S2 went in for an MOT today. She passed (always a relief), and I'm happy.

However, during the inspection, I noticed that one of the rear shock absorbers is leaking. The tester suspected it was leaking from a seal, but didn't give me an advisory on it (I'm not sure why). Here's a very poor photo;

(For reference, it is clearly shock absorber oil that is leaking, not brake fluid/CV grease/unicorn dribble or anything else like that).

The suspension was changed 8 years ago and I fitted Koni parts, which have now done 65,000 miles. I guess that's a reasonable mileage but I'd have hoped for a bit more. The parts clearly need changing, so what are my options? I guess I could just do the rears, or bite the bullet and do the fronts as well. I quite like the Bilstein option, as I quite like Bilstein stuff. Where are the cheapest places to get Bilstein shocks these days and what was the final conclusion on the best way to fit them to the front? (It's an S2, so the dampers don't have screw tops. In fact, they have been chopped for the Koni parts to be fitted so this needs to be taken into account if they are to be re-used.)

I guess the other option would be KW V3's, but I'm not sure I want to spend that much on the car. It'll be having a new cylinder head fitted soon, and it'll need some welding done on the sills next year too. (I guess that is the perennial problem with old cars, eh!)

So, in short;

- Where is the cheapest place to buy Bilstein shocks for an S2, and what is the best way to make them fit the front of the car?
- What's the cheapest place to buy KW V3's from these days? *
- What other options are there?

Thanks!

Oli.

* - No, I don't want to re-ignite the usual debate about the merits of KW V3's, nor to re-start the clamouring of adoration from the KW enthusiasts on here. I know how good they are, I have driven 944's with the KW's fitted, I think they are good. Thanks! [:D]

the exchange rate is still pretty good so try ebay.de

Billies in the front will require some threaded collars made and welded on your old struts, there was a pair of S2 ones on ebay the other day for £10, they would make a good start for modification then you would not have to take yours off the road for long

fronts on ebay Germany for £193 a pair free post 371428104011

rears £288.00, shame you missed it there was a deal on amazon a few weeks ago £88 a pair plus post

Do you know where I can get some "Unicorn Dribble" please Oli ? I am wanting some for my little Girl's Birthday party.
Thanks mate [:)]

On a more serious note Oli, give Jon' Mitchel a bell mate. He may be able to sort you out with the KW's. He did me and, was the cheapest by far (and set up correctly too) [;)][8D][:D]

Martin - Yes, it's a shame I missed the two-for-£88 deal on amazon! I looked at it and thought 'No, those Koni items on mine should have lots of life left in them" and thus didn't buy! retrospect, eh? ....

Pete, I'll trade you a small bottle of unicorn dribble for a set of bilstein shocks for an S2. Deal? Thanks for the tip about Jon Mitchell and KW v3's; they seem to be sold (parts only) for around £1500 so he would have to discount them heavily for them to match a set of Bilsteins price-wise. They are a better set-up, true, and have the secondary valving, whcih others don't. However I've driven cars with them fitted and they are good ... but not stupidly much better than standard IMHO. Hmmm, decisions!

Thanks for your help, both of you.

Oli.
