Leaking Rear Window

Guest

New member
Whilst trying to get my heated rear window working, I have found that the leak I have is actually from the bottom corners of my rear window.

Has anyone had this problem and if so, how was it rectified?

Regards

Phil

I have looked a little closer, has anyone ever removed their rear window? If so, is it possible to use the existing rubber and fixing strip, or do I need a new one of each?

I took my rear window out last year to fix just this leak, just remove the trip strip and then push firmly from the inside!

You can reuse the trim strip if you are careful getting it out, I used a local windscreen firm to put the screen back in (with a new rubber). This is a right fiddly pain and took a experienced guy 3 hours!

Get the leak fixed or the parcel shelf fills up with water, then rots out the upper crossmember, then leaks down the rear seats, takes out the lower corners of the floorpan, into the jacking points and takes them out along with the back of the sill and the longitudinal under the torsion bar.....[&:] Guess how I found out...[:(]

When refitting use lots and lots of mastic screen sealant, I spent many hours with a hosepipe and no trim in the car checking that it had worked. The worst leak was coming from the top of the seal where it changes direction to go across to top of the roof. The water ran down here the inside the seal to appear in the bottom corner before continuing to flood the newly repaired shelf

Check out the picture of the rot as I discovered it....
