Leaking S2 Cabriolet

Hi Guys

I am at a loss here!! I have an S2 Cabriolet and up till recently, had a problem with the footwells behind each seat collecting water when it rained.

I explored the car and found 2 small holes, that were obviously meant to be there, in the top corners of the recess of where the boot closes. I pur rubber seals in the holes and managed to stop the water coming in. Problem solved I thought, but NO!!! I am unable to leave my prized possession facing down my driveway, as water collects in the area I have bunged up.

I spoke with my local Porsche Centre (<erlin at Nottingham) and they could not see these holes anywhere on any microfische (if that' s how you spell it, ha ha ha).

I then spoke to Simon at Porsche Apart (the breakers) to see if he could shed any light and he seemed toi think that there should be a drainage tube attached to the holes to drain the water away, but couldn' t recollect any when breaking.

I am at a loss now, as I would like not to have to worry about parking facing downhill!!

Hi Phil,

The old " foot wells filling with water" story. You are not alone. I think we have all had it.

You are right, that there should be hoses going out of the holes in the rear wheel arch wells. these are on both sides of the car and drain from the sun roof gully on the left and the sun roof gully and petrol filler recess on the right.

Try dribbling water dowm the holes at the back of the sun roof gully to see where the water comes out.

If the hoses are missing they are going to bee a bit of a so' n' so to repalce as you may have to remove the interior side panels in order to get access.

What a fool I am - ignor my previous posting, that all - obviously - related to the Coupe.

That said, the petrol drain could be a clue but I wouldn' t have thought you would get enough water ingress to notice.

Wet rear footwells can be down to poor rear window seals on Coupe, could this be a problem with the roof seal on the cabriolet
 
From what I can understand, these " tubes" should be present from the drainage holes located in the boot aperture, but they are missing. I think this was one of the final modifications made when the S2 manufacture was moved to the Porsche factory in Stuttgart. My soft top does not leak at all (and how lucky I am for that, you can imagine!!), and since " plugging" the holes, I have no problem with the leaking, but this is not ideal, as the water has no where to drain off to when facing down a hill.

What I would really like, is a suggestion of how to fit something to drain from these holes in the top corners of the boot aperture.

Although I only have a 944S, I too would often find that the rear footwells would be awash with water after it rained. I was pointed in the direction of the sunroof. But I didn' t believe it. Eventually, the fault was traced to a break in the windscreen seal, but not before enough water had seeped behind the glove compartment and ruined the conviently placed electronics.

So, do you see any water in the front footwells at all?

Does it look like this drainage solution could be easily retrofitted to earlier Cabriolets ? I have an ' 89 car (one of the first in the UK) and get fed up with mopping water out of the bootlid corners each time it rains or when I wash the car (although brisk accellaration down the road also seems to do the job !)

I have taken a couple of pics of nthe grommets and tubes, which I fitted to my S2 Cab, it took about 5 mins to do. I guess that if there are no holes in the bodywork, perhaps new ones could be drilled, but I would suggest you get them treated to avoid potential rusting.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I thought mine had grommets that were blocked. At the weekend I discovered it has plugs with no holes. Because it's parked nose-down on my drive it gets like a swimming pool in there so I'm going to order some now.

Cheers for the info Phil - you're not a bad chap even if your engine is in the wrong place these days!

BTW mine is one of the last cab, suggesting that they had the holes but no the drainage solution by the finish. Do the early ones have no holes then?
