Leaking Tipo and Main Gaskets

Hi

I know some of you will already know of the problem I have with my rear main and tipo sump gasket misting on my 2002 C4s Tipo. Believed to be due to the RMS.
I know that some advice has been given to owners of manual cars to wait until the clutch is due but on a Tipo when would it be best to get the leaks sorted or isn't there a real need to disassemble the box?
 
To replace the RMS on a tiptronic, I think you have to remove the engine and gearbox to separate them. You don't need to strip down the gearbox. It is something like a 7 1/2 hour job, to replace a £10 part. (On a manual, you can take out the transmission and leave the engine in place). The sump gasket of the tiptronic box can be done in-situ so that's not too expensive, so I would get that done soon. The RMS doesn't usually cause much of a problem other than the odd drip of oil on the garage floor once in a while. Unless you need the warranty, you could leave it for a while.
 
Not sure I understand your reference to rear main and tipo sump gaskets. Oil leaks or misting under the engine are usually down to the RMS seal on the crankshaft, however the internmediate shaft is also known to leak and I believe there is also a seal on the tip box that may leak but is less common. Untill the transmission and engine are pulled apart nobody can say for sure where the problem lies although the chances are its the RMS. The problem with a Tip car is that the engine and transmission have to be removed as a unit and then split to investigate the problem. That's how an OPC will do it, I don't know if any indies have found a way to remove the transmission with the engine in situ. Basically its an expensive job to replace a cheap seal. Would try and give the car some use for a few weeks as these seals have been known to cure themselves. Will try and attach a picture of what to look for re an RMS leak.

I do need it sorting as I would like to take out a warranty. The OPC who carried out the 111 check did say it was prob down to the RMS.
When i first looked under the engine it did more or less look like the picture. I then had it steam cleaned, drove it for about 1 week and just had it on the ramps again today. Guess what, no sign of a leak just the dry grime areas were the steamer didnt clean too well.
Just wondering if i should book into another OPC and spend another £200 on a 111 check to see if they pass it of?
Do they look for fresh oil staines or does the engine have to be spotless ie free from grime to get passed of?
 
Where are you located? I'm sure I have heard that OPC Cambridge don't charge for the 111-point inspection if you take out the warranty. Can someone confirm that?
