Leaky Porsche

The commissioning process continues........

The car got wet today, I don't buy cars to be garage queens so its bound to happen, just haven't used this particular car much because I hate road salt - irrational I know! Anyway, heavy down pour this morning and after a very enjoyable spin through the Clyde Valley noticed the O/S rear footwell was soaking, further investigation found the base of the O/S rear passenger seat also to be saturated. Everywhere else seems dry but ran out of time to investigate properly.

At first I thought rear side window seal was leaking but I believe this is seated in a bonded seal. I do have an issue with the rear screen which has obviously been out at one point as the seal is curling at the top with the common consensus being that the window has been set to low.

What would you put your money on - rear or side window? Rear screen needs to come out anyway due to rust bubbles but is the side window DIY?

You wouldn't have this much fun with a 991.....

Possibly leaking at the floor just behind the cross member. There have been a couple of posts a while back on this. Take all the affected carpets out and let them thoroughly dry out somewhere nice and warm. I had this a few years back, after I dried carpets and felt out I avoid big puddles and haven't been bothered since. Sealing it with mastic is probably a better long term solution though [:)]

Thanks Clyde, just searched and found the earlier posts.

I would rule out the cross member leak as under the rear seat was also soaking plus the fact I never drove through any water and the roads were drying. The car had been on the drive overnight in heavy rain.

Need to strip everything out and get the hose going........

Leaking from the bottom of the rear screen O/S, then running down the quarter panel and settling in the rear seat "hollow" and rear passenger footwell!

Had posted previously about the rear screen and whoever had it out obviously made a real pigs ear of it but the frustrating thing is somebody has punched a small pin hole in the rear passenger footwell floor to let the water away! I'd contradict Mike Brewer and say always buy a car in the rain! Every time I went to see it it was rolled out the garage and presented. In fairness previous owner only did 20 miles in two years so he may not have known.......assuming he never washed it off course!

The soundproofing is knackered and I'm going to have to strip the whole interior to be sure water has crept elsewhere...........it's another opportunity for improvement! New carpet and interior revamp..........you wouldn't have this much fun in a 996!
