leather cleaner?

the interior of the car needs a good clean (not mingin', but not to my liking!) so whats the best stuff to use for light (linen) coloured leather?
the insrument binacle needs a good clean with some glass cleaner, as do all the plastic parts. the previous owner looks like they smoked (i do, but not in the house/car or anywhere around the wife/little un) and it needs a nicotine free enviroment, there seems to be a film of the stuff over everything, plus, i hate the smell!!

the wheels have been refurbed, so whats the best product to keep them looking like new? i'm not a fan of chemical alloy wheel cleaners, (too corrosive imo) so what do you all rec?

best regards, Al.

I've tried all sorts to clean and make my leather look better but not found anything that made me go 'wow thats good'. Mines black and to hide some marks on the door cards I've used shoe polish, I guess not a good idea on the seats! The Autosol stuff in a tube was about the best.

I may be wrong but I think the clocks are plastic so some plastic scratch polish would work.

As to the wheels you can buy wheel wax to keep them looking good and easier to clean.

For leather I use Gliptone.

If you really want to shift the dirt from leather a leather restorer in warrington showed me some good tips...

Natural soap flakes, boiling hot water and a load of clothes and a thick pair of rubber gloves.
Make up a solution of hot water and flakes and mix. Then gloves on and one cloth dipped in water and rung out
and then placed on leather. The steam from the hot cloth (must not be wet as damages the leather, or makes it too wet)
helps lift dirt from the leather. Then another cloth to wipe up and then repeat as necessary. You will see the dirt lifting on to the cloth.
Keep going till cloth lifts no more dirt. Then you can use Gliptone cleaner and finally condition leather.

Wheels I use caravan cleaner!!!! None corrosive, biodegradable and 1 litre makes 40 litres!!!
Although I must admit I use it more concentrated than that. Also great on my mountain bike at helping
shift the dirt aswell.....[:D][:D] And its a bargain....

Another vote for gliptone. Cleaner and conditioner brought my linen drivers seat up a treat after the garage left it filthy[]

Saddlesoap is pretty good for getting leather stains off, and the glycerol in it smell squite nice. Avaliable in most horsey places. Great for cleaning saddles & tack, too..

cheers guys, i'll try the soap flakes and hot water, then get hold of some of that gliptone, the carpets are actually quite good, a few stains, so i'll use vanish carpet cleaner, i'll wait til its garaged over the bad winter days to do that tho!!

Hi Al

I used the guys at "Busy Bee Hand Car Wash" on the Moreton/Meols bit of road to clean the carpets of my other halfs Freelander.

They came to my house, I took all the seats out first and they only charged me £20 to wash and shampoo the carpets.

Did a great job and smelt like new too....[:D]

They left the engine running blowing hot air over the carpets whilst they did it and they dried pretty quick too.
