howdy, what sort of full leather interior could you get in the 944 turbo? i currently have half leather in cream. but its really old now. i think a new interior would be best than getting it retrimmed. if i go down the way of retrimming, would it lose its value? how much does a whole interior go for? interested either in full cream leather or black leather.

Cheers

You could have whatever you wanted when ordering the car from new - leather dash, leather doorcards, leather centre console, leather rear seats and leather seatbacks for the front seats.

The standard leather that came on 944T was simply a leather facing on the front seats. The rear seats and the backs of the front seats are leatherette (aka vinyl [:D]).

Most cars that are described as half leather are in fact fabric in the centre part of the front seats and then vinyl on the bolsters and everywhere else

If you're thinking about upgrading to a full leather interior you'd be much better off buying a full sports leather interior from someone else's car rather than re-covering because the seats are much nicer and really hold you in which at least for me makes a huge difference to my driving enjoyment. Makes the whole car feel more sporty.. and helps when the time comes to sell. Not so much in value but will sell much more easily.

Aye, the electric sports leather seats are just beautiful. Worth it, whatever the cost. The most comfortable and supportive seats I've tried in any car.

While I'd agree sports seats are very desirable compared to comfort seats don't get too excited. I find them uncomfortable on long journeys (no under thigh support) and they have zero shoulder support so they are pretty hopeless for going quick as well. They do feel sporty though.

I haven't got pics to hand but interior options in terms of trim were:
  • Standard fabric centres with vinyl everywhere else
  • Optionally fabric on door cards to match seats
  • Optionally fabric on bolsters to match centres
  • Optionally leather facings to front seats
  • Optionally fulll leather (try finding one - it cost something like £4,500 in the 80's)
Fabrics available were:
  • Berber - like a tweed
  • Pascha - like a flapping chequered flag
  • Studio - like tartan
  • Logo - slightly shiny cloth with "Porsche" embroidered in it
  • Pinstripe - velour with a pinstripe through it
Colours (from memory):
  • Beige
  • Brown
  • Black
  • Burgundy
  • Linen (cream)
  • Marine blue (dark)
  • Cobalt blue (brighter blue, from MY'91)
  • Classic grey
  • Red / can-can (special order I think)
I may have missed some options that others can add.

I find 968 CS buckets to offer even better comfort from either Comfort or Sports seats. I agree with Fen on the lack of comfort on long journeys, but then perhaps I'm too tall to feel comfortable.
Comfort and Sports seats could be ordered with lumbar support as an option, and the price catalog on the Porsche website suggests they are still available in some colours but they each cost a pair of kidneys, more than the double of the "normal" ones without lumbar support. Better fork out for a pair of aftermarket buckets from Recaro.

I agree with all of that except specifying the CS Recaros, which are too wide even for my ample rump and therefore wider than the extra wide size of proper competition seats available and I assume a road spec seat in the aesthetic style of proper race seats. They are also much heavier than proper SPGs etc.

I know I have been less uncomfortable in my Turbo with Corbeau Sprint XL seats than the original sports Porsche ones, but equally I know seats are very personal. In my Audi I find the Recaros OK at best (and excruciating to the point I seriously considered selling it after 10 days if not adjusted well) whereas others find them supremely comfortable.

I really didn't get on with the comfort seats in my S2 when I first bought it (average-sized guy, not over/underweight, 5ft8inches, slightly longer arms and legs than I should have for my height but nothing freaky) and really seriously priced up some replacements (which would have been very expensive for me, given my limited funds). As an interim measure I stripped the drivers seat covers off and re-packed the back with a big bit of curved foam in the lumbar curve of the back, and have been as right as rain ever since.

I can now happily manage 5 or more hours in the seat, limited only by having to stop to refuel or pee, without any back problems at all.

another question, has anyone have their interior retrimmed? any how much did it cost?

Thats two different types of seat, the top one is the electric sport seat, the other is standard manual, which one are you after?

I will have a pair of black leather standard electric seats for sale in a couple of months if you can wait.
